Would floor bars hooked to a lever make a murder hole?
or do I have to drop kittens through there?

THeoretically this could work, but the problem is that useful ammo to drop down it is lacking. If you don't want to use magma, that is.

Toady typically doesn't do things by half measures.  As evidenced by turning "make hauling work better" into "implement mine carts with physics".
There are many issues with this statement.

Actually, fortifications are exactly what murder holes are (narrow slits through the wall), though I don't think you can order your dwarves to dump anything on attackers yet. With some engineering, you could build lever-activated "buckets" dropping magma.

I'd love magmaproof buckets!
They would be swell to fill small pockets of the evilstuff.

'd need -asbestos mittens- though.
Imagines a dwarf uncharacteristically running with a bucket: >huff! huff!< >ow. ow. ow. hot! ow. ow. ow.< >huff! huff!<

with some imagination, stonefall traps can be seen as dropping stuff from murderholes...

Would there be an arena in a castle or surrounding village?
Some of those dead elves dropped a giant desert scorp, and an unarmed gobbo vs that is win.

Same here. ;)

I thank the elves for the cages they 'donated', now those 50 puppies and donkey foals are nicely contained.
Still all my barrels end up filled with delicious fat wich my dwarves won't eat, because the one hunter that immigrated to my inn is unussually effective at hunting horses.
The frequent rhesus macaque invasions don't help with the rotting meat smell either. ><

Heck, I doubt I'll probably finish in time.
I'll still show what I got on the deadline though.

Ok cool.

You can add speed:1 if you want anything goes here because i didnt want this to be a drawn out challenge that never comes to conclusion or gets abandoned.

Same here, I don't think I'll "finish" in time. I have a pretty good castle going right now though. My keep is coming along nicely; the great hall has a roof over it and I've started building rooms for everyone. I also started new farms after having relied on fishing for awhile:

It's a 2 z-level high great hall with balconies on the side. Now that's what I call legendary.

I also had a pretty cool siege lately. They sure did bring alot of spear/pikemen:

They started retreating so I slaughtered the lot of them. Their bodies littered the ground:

Problems are, you can't stand on a fortification, and can't drop things through grates/bars.

I always thought murder holes were holes in the floor/ceiling that you dropped things through, but that's just a preconception.

I took off the back bridge, and thickened the bases of walls to 4 deep, built the statue repository chapel, took a little to get the blinking gem-windows synchronized though- there's no ob'ious relation between what order you select items and what order they bring 'em.

hmmm, how to upload to DFMA...

edit: Artyr, looks pretty nice. Certainly nicer than my tiny castle/keeplet(It's only a model) with a gob-name with a buncha humans, e'en if I did make all the stones into blocks. Did you?

I'm doing the speed one thing.
Wait, where do I stick in speed 1?

i see swim speed, but not speed.

nevermind, these dwarves are flying by like they've been shot form a bow.

awesome.

In the creature entry for your guys- you'll see that Elves have a speed entry, others just use default 'alue (1000).

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Now if I just knew what was killing my fps...maybe it's that they all get to move each step, so it has to think about that a lot more. Is funny watching when they pick up a block bin, though, since they get a few magnitudes slower.
