So, say with black sand you'd get smoky glass...

Yeah, that's it. ._.

we already have the raw materials to make a ton of different colors of glass. I assume toady is just waiting till he adds the glass furnace to the raws like he did the other furnace (which, I understand, won't be for quite some time).

I'd be happy if you could make glass of any color by adding one or more milled dyes to clear glass (change clear glass's color to white). And change the default "green glass" to "smoky white glass" (bright gray).

Dimple: Clear Blue (bright blue)
Dimple + Sliver: Smoky Blue (dark blue)
Dimple + Emerald: Clear Cyan (bright cyan)
Sliver: Smoky Gray (dark gray)
Emerald + Redroot + Sliver: Smoky Yellow (brown)
etc.

This way you can color-coordinate your glass fortress!   :D

The only way glass is tinted is with the addition of non-combustable impurities, like cobaltite (cobalt ore; blue) or pitchblende (uranium ore; [glowing] green)

It doesn't have to make literal sense. Yeah, organic things burn away, but maybe the /ashes/ of a dimple cup are still blue.  :p
