Bars

There needs to be a "Bar" workshop, where skilled dwarves can mix together various boozes into delicious cocktails that are worth more and provide happy thoughts when drunk (Drank?). Perhaps random names for the mixed drinks, or normal names.

Dwarfy Mcdwarf,Legendary Bartender.

We would also need the option to designate 'Bars' from tables. When a dwarf gets thristy, rather than drinking the booze right out of the stockpile, he fills a mug n brings it to the 'Bar', or he waits near the 'Bar' workshop for the 'Bartender' to give him a drink, which he takes to a 'Bar' table and chair.

I thought being drunk did that by itself.   ;)

I'd rather it be like a dwarf run shop than a workshop.

Would it function as an additional stockpile for the drinks, i.e. will the dwarves go to the nearest bar or truck it over the the stills to drink from the barrels in there?

could be the same as a kitchen, mix normal food into fancy food.
mix normal drink into fancy drink
then just store it on the pile again (in the barrels it came in)
?

If it did that we'd end up with a single barrel full of 100 units of dwarven screwdriver, that's no good, only one person can drink at a time from it. If it were an area to designate; I.e. build a table/counter, assign as a bar then mugs and barrels are moved to it so dwarves don't drink out of the kegs the whole time

I'd have it as a workshop built out of tables and cabinets. (3 tables, a cabinet) and orientable like pumps/siege engines. Bars would use the job set of "Bartender"  and the workshop/bar would store a barrel of every alcohol type in the fort using the "Stock Bar" task. Dwarves going for a drink would naturally head towards the nicest Bar workshop with a bartender on the "Tending Bar" task first, and if none found they'd simply drink from the barrels. They'd go to the edge the bar is facing and then be served alcohol by the bartender. Bartender does checks for Conversationalist, Flatterer and Comedian skills, success giving a bonus happy thought beyond simply drinking a mug of alcohol.

Mugs/Goblets should be involved more though.

Second.
Maybe make it take 3 Mugs/Goblets when building?

actually, could it be built in a similar way to a weapon trap - where you select how many of an object you want to use in it.
so you build a tiny bar with 1 chair and only 1 dwarf can use it at a time.
or you build a big one with 10 tables and 10 chairs and 10 cause it at a time

perhaps have it re-sizeable like a bridge too - to determine the max number of chairs / tables / how many mugs need to be brought to the bar. (number of mugs limits how many dwarfs can be served, mugs can get broken at the bar, so you will need a supply of them)

do dwarfs need to sit down to drink? do they need a table to drink at? can they drink standing at actual bar?

could multiple dwarfs sit at a table (provided there were enough chairs) to get thoughts "...has made a friend", ".. has talked with a friend", "has drank with a friend" etc.

Thinking about it some more, a "Bar" workshop, built by one log/metalbar/block and X number of goblets/mugs. The bar would hand out drinks like some kind of dwarven feeding trough. The bar would look like a length of 3 tables in the colour of the log/bar/block so it'd look nice in the main dining hall and double as where the "Tavernkeeper/Innkeeper" would stand in adventure mode.

A specific bar structure could be fun, but why stop there?  Why not have shops turn into Taverns, that also serve food.  Sure, the dwarves can eat in the dinning hall all they want, but the idea here is that they're served the food, so they get a happy thought at the cost of some of their currency.

They already do have to buy it, at least when you get the economy, then most of them can't afford to eat because your cook's skill is too high
