After I played DF for long enough I kept trying to use the spacebar to pause games. It didn't work so well on Warcraft III when I hit the spacebar and walked away to go to the bathroom, only to return and find the enemy busy leveling my main base.
I've never tried to pause something else with the spacebar, but i hacve tried to cancel with it... fortunately the results so far are me thinking "stupid, it's not DF".

Neverwinter Nights pauses with the spacebar too, so that works out well for me.
Even though I never play NWN in singleplayer mode, so that's a fairly moot point...

I keep expecting to see some game that mocks all the typical video game cliches as well as Disgaea.
Not yet.
Like for instance, Disgaea has a leveling system.  Max level is 9999.  It has a set of statistics that govern how powerful your character is.  Stat caps are at 20 million each. Enemies scale in toughness, but only as much as you tell them to.

I know, I've spent hundreds of hours playing Disgaea. It was an experience.

oddly enough, a level 9999 enemy creature isn't that strong. Levels ARE important, but the game mechanics dictate that the stats you receive from leveling aren't even 1/10 as important as the stat boosts you get from having excellent equipment, and random lvl 9999 monsters usually don't have good equipment.

Although, acquiring said 'excellent' equipment is a fucking epic adventure, because of how the equipment system is set up. (I WILL elaborate if anyone's curious)

Oddly enough...

It is only now that I realize I spent way too much fucking time playing that game. I know everything about it, by heart.

I've only played the first Disgaea, I'm too afraid I might get absorbed again if I play the sequals.

Disgaea 2 has a less fun story but more fun mechanics.

And it's still nothin' but grinding.  It's way more fun to play if you don't realize how the mechanics work straight off, so you're not all "must make elaborate chain of master/student stuff".

I've played Toribash, a multi (two) player fighting game where you control the joints of a puppet to create very Dwarf Fortran fights. Dwarf Fortran in the sense of "Haha, I just ripped my left arm off and threw it at my enemy, decapitating him!"
But if you have your move planned out (turn based, both turns played at the same time), you can press space. This makes you end your turn.

For that viciously bad pun, I'm gonna introduce a NPC named Vlynndar just so that I can kill him of in a cruel and unusual way.

I don't get that from playing games, but I get it from programming.  When I make a mistake I constantly use Ctrl+z to "undo".

It's gotten so bad that when I make a mistake in real life like spill some milk or spell something wrong on paper, my hand goes up for a split-second thinking that I can "Ctrl+z" the problem.
...
at least it's not as bad as my ctrl-x

After moving from Linux to Windows, I catch myself trying to bring up the task launcher with Alt+F2. This hindsight on the part of Microsoft is so heinous that I had to download a third-party app to fix it.

Don't even get me started on trying to use my Nano keys in other applications. Ctrl+O does not save in any graphical editor.

I constantly get it when playing RTS's for too long. I keep getting confused between the left/right clicking on the mouse. Its only two buttons but why do they have to be so annoyingly different!

Humor! I am poking fun at the fact that I'm forced to use Windows and wish I had some of my Linux tools back.

Ok, ok, just making sure :D

Yeah, I get the same thing sometimes.  But as a primary Windows user, it's way stronger for me when I move from Windows to *nix...

I used to play action quake2 all the time when I was at University in the late 90's.

In fact so much that I took the habit of not walking past open windows without something in the back of my mind saying someone coud loose a round through my skull at any moment, should I dwell too long.

Oh man that was the best game ever.  I played SO much of that game.

It gave me weird senses of distance, specifically how far apart, oh, say two rooftops are in the real world.  Bad idea to try circlejumping in the real world.
