Your Most Insane Deities
« on: January 02, 2009, 05:13:56 pm »

It can be fun to run through your Legends mode and look at the various deities. Most of them make sense, but occasionally you find one that is a little off. Post 'em here!

This is a goddess of a custom civilization I made. I might have to take another look at the spheres tags...

Not a carp, but almost as good. (Same custom civilization)

But they don't like the sun! (Dwarven deity)

Ah. Reminds me of playing Civ IV.

"Our gods can beat your gods any day of the week. Convert before it's too late."

Urist Armorbear was a deity that occurs in the myths of The Iron Hall. Urist was most often depicted as a male dwarf and was associated with the war, chaos, and dancing.

Kind of un-dwarflike...

If the chopping is frenetic and bloody enough a thin haze rizes from the bloody pulp, from that haze a glorious rainbow emerges.

I remember I had a goddess of suicide who most often appeared in the form of a corpse... not really contradictory, but rather perfectly fitting.

Can't remember the name, but my current expedition leader's god takes the form of a demon, and is associated with greed, darkness, pain, suicide, and kittens.

A modded race (Gothic Humans) of mine had an interesting pantheon...

1. A god of pain, war, and darkness that takes the form of a Gothic.

Not so bad, but the other god?

2. A god of greed, fire, and kittens that takes the form... of a Demon.

WTF... I really need to recheck the religion spheres... I may/may not have been half-asleep at the time. But before I do that, I still need to figure out why the hell it keeps crashing...

I figured demons came from the 50 or so years of inbreeding between the things, like some weird goblin evolution.
I now have justification for genocide. Thank you.

Not /technically/ a deity, but the most influential worshipped figure in the history of my current world seems to be Smunxaz Vomitmuck, the Princess of Vice, a male tentacle demon who ruled the Dread of Twilight. The Dread of Twilight /was/ a goblin civilization.

The interesting thing about her is two-fold. Firstly The age of Myth turned into the age of legends in the year 40 when a number of titans and Bronze collosii went on rampages and were killed. In the year 41, she turned the age of legends  into the Second Age of Myth, when a brave dwarf attacked her with an army, and got slaughtered. She then went on a rampaging spree of terror until she was struck down by chance in the year 185.

The really interesting part is this: After she died, worship of her would blossom for over a century among dwarves and humans, until today the Dread of Twilight is a civilization of mostly cannibalistic dwarves and humans. (I have no idea how in the heck they became cannibals, I thought that was an elven thing, but I can see in the legends that they've eaten a few people).

So though not a deity, her (his? What gender pronoun do you use for a male princess) - worship remains popular, and her/his name feared.

I completely forget the name and have long since deleted the world, but my all-time favourite so far was a brook lamprey god who was associated with lakes, ponds, rivers, oceans, gambling and luck.

Luck be a lamprey tonight.  ;)

From "Angroshs Kinder" Das schwarze Auge Zwergenhandbuch - (Angrosh Children, the dark eye, german pen&paper, dwarven handbook):
"Elves!? Their men dont wear beards, and their women bathe nacked to lure you into the water and drown you. Thank Angrosh they are as ugly as the day and all big and skinny."
