Ohh come on! Blowing up Trap tiles is a legit strategy.

At least in my mind, since Alters make it obvious that if the creator didn't want you to blow up traps then he/she wouldn't have let you.

Plus, it costs you a bomb, which can be more valuable than the several thousand gold the idol can net you.

Is there some sort of anti-trap disarming feeling in the official Spelunky forums or something?

Most people are against it because it abuses limitations in GameMaker; like the "frozen zone" off screen.

That frozen zone is the achilles heel of those shopkeepers! I'd be a fool to not abuse them!

This new version seems much slower than the previous one I downloaded a version or so back.

Gameplay is great, but level transitions are super long compared to the old one.

Yeah, it has to do with game limitations(although I have used game maker, and I dont see how someone as talented as Derek Yu would have those problems).

Anyway the frozen zone thing can be worked out as well if you ask me.

It's just the fact that there *is* a maximum amount of time you can spend on a level before something shows up to get rid of you.  It's always there, looming over you...  Even though you figure you've probably got enough time to get through the level, there's always the knowledge that if you dawdle too long you'll get hunted down by an invincible force.  It's like in those old arcade games, just not as brutal.

Yeah, I hate that feeling too.

Theres a hat you can get to fix that, but its just not worth it.

Then why doesn't he handle it like he does Alters and just activate the ghost anyway?

Though I am guessing there is a more technical reason... Like one square cannot have two conditions. (though he could have simply make it immune to being blown up)

The only time I ever run out of time is if I'm dawdling, trying to perform something extremely tricky, or if I spend all my time in the gambling saloon. God I love gambling, but I hate it when the same prize gets offered three times in a row.

I ran into the ghost 1 or 2 times back when I used to collect EVERYTHING on a stage.

I know there's a trick where luring the ghost over gems will turn them into diamonds worth 5000$ each, but I've yet to grow the balls to attempt this at all, let alone with money-grubbing in mind.

In the latest news, I've finally acquired the silver trophy for damsel rescuing, and I was ONE damsel off. The worst part was that I HAD 8 damsels, but I sacrificed one at an altar early on.

Also, with me picking up the game again, I've acquired a new hatred for the first area, as the arrow traps are liberally and aggravatingly placed in every nook and cranny, just to spite me it would seem. I don't remember them being like that, and it don't like it.

In other news, I still love gambling. Compass, then cape, then 12 bomb box, then climbing gloves, THEN jumping shoes! Sweet Jesus was that a good roll! Too bad I died on spikes shortly thereafter when I got distracted.

Well gmabling seems kind of... broken. You have a 1/6 chance of winning an item, then a 5/12 chance of winning double your money and 5/12 chance of losing. So effectively unless you are really poor or unlucky you can just keep playing till you get a chill and end up with loads of stuff.

It's easily exploited once you have the hedjet.

Of course, GETTING the hedget is a whole 'nother ballgame.

Out of curiosity, has anyone ever tried to kill a shopkeeper with the ghost? It sounds more trouble than its worth but who knows...
