I got my first win by zerg rushing the shortcuts...It's amazing how that demonstrates what you really need.

Isn't that how it's meant to be played? If you try hard enough, you will win. If you're good at the game, you'll win faster.

I'm annoyed, I robbed a store of a jetpack, grabbed the store owner's shotgun and got to the third world before accidentily shooting down a UFO at an altar. I only had one heart.
On world 3? with a jetpack? Why didn't you just leg it and let the spiders fall to their doom?

They were right above me when they spawned, and the altar was in a corner of the level with me being on the end farthest from the edge.

That [Magma] is a bit deep down there, don't you think?
You really aren't thinking like a dwarf.

If you think it is down too far, you move it up until it reaches an acceptable elevation.

Even freakier is the game apparently coming in some form to XBLA or whatever the specific distro bit is.

New version of Spelunky? I didn't even get to play the last release.

Ah well. 1.0 is golden. And I got to world two on my second life, thus proving that I play this game much, much better with a game-pad.

Now to spoil myself by rereading the entire thread. :D

Y'know, I think I'd be able to enjoy this game a heck of a lot more if it weren't for that damned ghost shooing me out of every level.  I am an exploration freak, I love just wandering around and figuring out the lay of the level.

If Spelunky were a little less linear and more just about finding your way around, I think I'd be hooked on it.  As it is, I just can't get into the mad victory dash mentality.

What are you doing? I normally have more than enough time to look around and grab all the good stuff on a level before the ghost appears, I normally only end up having to a victory dash ecause I'm low on life.

I think he means larger, more maze like levels.

It has five mouths full of treacherous teeth, enormous clear wings, and ferocious blue eyes. Beware its icy breath! Ustxu was associated with oceans, glaciers, boats, and murder.

Well I've only ever seen the ghost once excluding if I nicked the idol that summons him. And I don't normally leg it for the exit, I've even hung around in gambling dens getting loads of stuff before and not seen him.

Provided he hasn't changed it, you can totally snatch the ghost-summoning idol without summoning the ghost. Just blow up the tile that the idol sits on, and the trap'll be disarmed.

blowing up trap tiles in spelunky is as bad as save scumming apperently.
