Nothing foolish about lacking the skill to make it through that game. It is a rather common thing.

But yes, I have only won the game through shortcuts. I might get into the game again, if only to get some trophies.

I would bet money Andrew has edited things retroactively, except I can't prove anything because it was edited retroactively.

That [Magma] is a bit deep down there, don't you think?
You really aren't thinking like a dwarf.

If you think it is down too far, you move it up until it reaches an acceptable elevation.

You really can't underestimate improvised weaponry in Spelunky. I love how a single rock can save you from countless arrow traps and such.
Although never drop a bomb near a rock or it might ricochet and kill you.

Try starting at the lvl 9 shortcut, that way you if you manage to get a jetpack victory should be almost guaranteed, and if you can't at least get to the boss with a jetpack and a mummy's sceptre then then there is no hope!

It can be difficult most of the time but if you get the alien then its a free backpack which makes the ice world so easy and then combine that with a sceptre and the only thing you have to worry about in the last world is arrow traps and one or two annoyingly placed crush traps.

You only beat it once? How can you prove it wasn't a fluke?

I'm still working on the third world.  I finally got the level 9 shortcut, and have reached world 4 a few times, but never got anything done.

World 3 is my favorite so far.  It's such a different experience from the others, although it's almost impossible to rescue damsels since there's so much wallgrabbing and that makes you drop them.

With a quick drop off the ledge, and return back to the ledge, (i.e. quick Right-left or Left-right) you can grab the edge without doing the crouching manouevre. You then don't drop the damsel.

Downside is sometimes you miss the return grab, and fall in to the abyss.

I'm annoyed, I robbed a store of a jetpack, grabbed the store owner's shotgun and got to the third world before accidentily shooting down a UFO at an altar. I only had one heart.

Spectacles are great now. I've found so much random stuff buried now, it isn't funny. Jetpacks on level one, pistols, shotguns, it's worth it to buy spectacles, and getting the eye in the first area is even better.

Ustxu Iceraped the Frigid Crystal of Slaughter was a glacier titan. It was the only one of its kind. A gigantic feathered carp composed of crystal glass. It has five mouths full of treacherous teeth, enormous clear wings, and ferocious blue eyes. Beware its icy breath! Ustxu was associated with oceans, glaciers, boats, and murder.

What's with the Temple of Doom-style lava pit?  Does it select which one causes the floor to drop out randomly, or is it always the idol that drops you?
