What's the trick to getting there? I felt extremely lucky finding it that one time, guess I just suck

In the first area, you'll find a key and a chest in one area (it's guaranteed to spawn in one of the four levels) and inside is an item called Udjat's eye.

If you have the eye in the jungle area, the eye will act like a metal detecter, and start blinking and beeping when you're close to the entrance of the black market. It blinks and beeps faster the closer you are to the door. Using the blinks and beeps, it's possible to deduce the location of the black market.

The eye you pick up in the first world blinks when you approach the door to the black market, so you can figure out where it is concealed that way.

The black market is meh, I can kill all the shopkeepers there, no problem.

I've seen everything this game has to offer so far, and its a great game, but I find it way too easy now.
I can make it to the very end three times out of five, and one of those deaths is usually bad level generation.

EDIT:Ninja'd.

Ahh I knew that eye was good for more than just wall gems, thanks!

I'm so horrible with the shopkeepers, even thinking about stealing or killing them seems to end in me becoming a fine red mist. Oh well!

Played 215 - Deaths 215

I find I perform better if I come to it with a clear head and play once in a row, and I can normally get to the third world fairly easily, if I think about everything I do reasonably with the experience I do have.

I still lose my bottle quite often on the third world, and normally die on the second or so level trying to avoid UFO fire and getting batted in to oblivion by a yeti.

I am completely clueless as to how to approach the fourth world, and have only really seen the top few rows of the the first level. Got there about three times now I think.

The interesting thing is that the more I play the more incapable I become of doing sensible things as frustration builds.

For instance on several (i.e 4 or 5) occasions now, I have played out the following scene:

I walk under an arrow trap in the first world, say with a clay pot in my hand.
Spelunky man thinks, that arrow trap better get activated, so it doesnt get me. Of course, it is directly above me, so the correct method of trap avoidance is simply not to jump.

As I fling my pot up in the air, the arrow sets off on its course. Now it is usually at this point that I realise there is a wall about 5 tiles away. In the fraction of a second my brain sees the parabolic projection of the arrows eventual rebounded destination, I panic, and before I have time to move, Mr Spelunky is sat on his arse nursing an arrow in his head.

This leads to me running faster to get to the end quicker, and before I know it I have fallen on to a spike. This circle of pain continues for another 6 or so deaths as I realise that I am getting less and less far with every play as my appetite for risk increases exponentially.

I just see my brain get muddied, my decision making abilities completely compromised, and lots of little corpses!

My prediction is that I will complete this game on somewhere hopefully before 500 deaths, but I am not holding my breath and I suppose I will enjoy it even if I don't get anywhere near.

The balance between gradual progress and the carpet being well and truly ripped from under your feet is top class.

The game has an excellent balance between screaming "RAGE AND FURY" and hitting that retry button with a massive grin. It's both unfathomably frustrating and amazingly fun at the same time, an experience I haven't felt since F-Zero (the SNES version). It's Nintendo Hard without being impossible or needlessly cruel, and that makes it a rare gem even among hundred-carat diamonds.

I'm finding that it is -shockingly- easy to steal from shopkeepers if you don't kill them.  If I find a jetpack, I ALWAYS swipe it and run away.

Also I've discovered that if you telefrag a shopkeeper, it doesn't anger all shopkeepers forever.  You get a wanted poster, but nobody lurking at the exit gate at ALL.  I think it acts exactly as if you stole the item but didn't actually kill the guy, probably thanks to weirdness in the way telefrags are handled.  I didn't leave the store with it though (which means having to be VERY lucky with your first teleport).  I started on level 5, found a rare shop with jetpack and teleporter on that level, and then blazed through the game with jetpack and shotgun.  Oh man, what an awesome combination (up until you get the superior scepter at least)

Hmm, is it just me, or has the old tight, responsive controls been forsaken for twitchie spastic controls?

Hrm, I wonder...

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

And the controls DO seem different.  Not exactly sure how, though.  Some jumps seem easier.

Alright, I warmed up to the new gambling game. I really like it now. I got sticky bombs, a pistol, and some cash out of a string of good luck.

Bomb arrows? NICE! Still looking for that new item. Also, I'm not sure, but the damsels seem ALOT tougher now. I'm not sure how though.

Seems either my keyboard is messed up, or I cannot press shift, right key and any other key at the same time.

Found another new item.

A skull cup or something that you get from sacrafices. The little description you get when you pick it up is "it thirsts for blood"

I wonder what that means.

Does your computer beep loudly when you press 3 buttons at the same time?
