Sadly, good runs like this are far and few in between.

At least that's what happens to me too often. Once I got through with 12 life, 99 bombs, ankh, shotgun, climbing gloves and jetpack only to notice that I should've done something in the 3rd Area to get to the Golden City. Doh.

The games more dependant on skill then luck, surprisingly, as I can say the same.

I'm growing increasingly spiteful of the climbing gloves, even though they come in very handy, when I'm trying to perform tricky maneuvers I wish I could turn them off because he just won't stop grabbing onto things! This has led to my death more than once.

Well, I beat it for the first time today.  All through the first two areas, I was saving my money, hoping only to give the tunnel dude a fat wad of cash and hopefully get close to opening up the last shortcut.  By not buying any items, I did manage to save up just over a hundred thousand dollars by the time I cleared the ice level.  However, it was a great run even with me being a cheapskate.  I got five saves, and found several crates such that by the time I got to the jungle, I had twelve of both ropes and sticky bombs, and a SHOTGUN, the first legit shotgun I ever owned.  Sadly, my precious shotgun fell into the endless void while I was on the first ice level.

Other than the spike boots I got off the Giant Yeti, and the glasses I got from Kali's Altar (sweet Armok, I love those altars when I get a chance to use them), I didn't own a single item.

Then once I got to the Temple levels, I managed to use a sticky bomb (and the terrain) to persuade a Mummy Lord to share his scepter with me.  That made the rest of the game a joke.  Thanks to the advice I received on here, I knew to treat the final boss like SMB3 Bowser, and thanks to the scepter, the enemies he spawned served only to give me a gold trophy for kills.

My final scores:  Money: 108775, Kills 125, Saves 5, Time 30:42, Deaths 111, Wins 1.

Great job! I remember when I first beat the game, I had such a great feeling of accomplishment.

But let me tell you a sad story, a story about hopes, and dreams, and hardships that in the end prevail.

It was a good game, even though a peaceful one witch I killed no shopkeepers. As epic as it was it ended very sadly. Although it got off to a good start, over the course of the first few levels I had gotten a total of 10 health from the maidens.

Not only that but I had gotten a cape at this point, of course all this came at no small cost, by the end of world two I had lost all of my bombs, ropes and such. Also my money was somewhat low, but that dident bother me much. At a point in world two I lost half my health. A great waste(TO THOSE DAMN FROGS!) but I wasent detered and kept going. Ice world was cake nuff said.

Finaly the final area, there were some tense moments but I got through alright. This was mabey the 4 or 5th time I had gotten to the final boss, I had 4 health at this point, my only weapon a flare and a throwing glove, I had no ropes or bombs mind you, I was gonna win, I had no doubt.

Anyway it was epic. About half way through due to spiders and frogs my health was knocked down to 1. But I wasent detered, I WAS GONNA KILL THE FINAL BOSS IF ITS THE LAST THING I DO!

The battle went on and I even lost my flare by throwing it too far and it went into the freeze zone(becuase of throwing glove) eventualy that last peice of earth under the boss broke and he fell in.

I was estatic, it was awsome, all that was left to do was jump the gap, and kill a few MINOR enemys like frogs and spiders and snakes. Mind you I only had 1 health...


So having no ropes I jumped across the gap, BUT I MISSED THE LEDGE AND FELL IN.

Honestly it shouldent have happened, probably the stupidest death I think exists in this game.

But Im not giving up, next time I'ma win. I was just sad becuase that was like... my epicest game...

the moment Olmec falls into the lave, you can jump on his head and run and jump across as he's sinking in. I've done it before, with and without ropes.
