 ...

Is that like the pick in the ground under the snake pit in area 1?

Probably.  I wouldn't be surprised if there are more items that could be found this way. (hidden near a mini-boss/feature)

I don't see how they could get the piranha to drop valuables. Although I know that the boss yeti drops a bunch of ropes.

Hehe, probably not the Piranha, but I still like the idea of guaranteed, but hard to get, items.
But are special features/bosses guaranteed to appear in each area?

Special features aren't gauranteed, but they are extremely likely to be generated at least once.

I can understand about the dark levels being a pain in the ass. I've gotten pretty good though at navigating them though. If you absolutely have to make a blind jump down, throw the flare down first and see where it lands.

Is it possible to buy more flares? I've never seen flares you can buy.

also, whatya think is the likelyhood of of a dark level? i've estimated it somewhere around a 1/10 chance.

The chance of a dark level is directly proportional to how safe you are feeling.

Also, the three flares you come with are the only ones you get. Seeing as you will only see one or two dark levels in a run, should not be much of a problem. Now that traps generate light, things are slightly easier.

what are the things in the score room? The 'sun' 'moon' and something else rooms.

I got a bronze trophy above the sun room, i think it's because i've gotten into the habit of killing the little sun enemies. I haven't seen any moon enemies though.

EDIT: never mind, i found a wiki article pertaining to it Here.

Ha, yes! I beat Spelunky! That was awesome! Proof:

Now I just need to seek out the secrets and I can safely call this one finished.

Even if i put the game down, I have to realize that this is still an incomplete game, and when Derek Yu finally finishes it, I'll feel compelled to pick it up again and beat it just to see the tweaks he made. He's already made a great game, very little needs to be changed.

If I had to say though, i'd say that swimming needs tweaking. Jumping out of the water can be very difficult, especially in the "you hear running water" sections of the Jungle. Damsel handling also needs some revising, especially when picking up the kissing booth girl and inadvertantly pissing off the shopkeeper. The totem pole spike traps are also a big kick in the balls, If you don't have some method of circumventing them entirely (spring shoes, jetpack, bombs, etc) then you it is VERY likely that they'll kill you if you try to climb over them normally. Also, Getting a dark level during the last area is a literal death sentence, those flying spike traps are too plentiful, too fast, and too deadly that not being able to see them ahead of time practically guarantees your death. then again, I never got the..

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Of course, their are bugs that still need to be ironed out. The "Damsel in a wall" glitch, the "short-fall damage" glitch, the "stunned forever" glitch, just to name a few.

Lumin mentioned that Derek Yu made some other games, think it's a good idea to check those out too?

Arghh... I cant even get passed the fourth level, I've died about 100 times and i have only made it to the grassy area once and I died pretty much as soon as I entered. I have decided that I am really bad at platform games and am going to uninstall this...

The "boss" character of level 2 is a giant piranha that lives in the pool at the bottom of a stage where you hear rushing water. So we have giant spiders, giant carp, aliens, and mummies.

I can get to world four...and die on a consistent basis. If there is one game I need to beat in my lifetime it is this one. I have racked up 250+ deaths so far.

It's you.  I used it a few times to make a bridge or stop some frogs from being unpredictable.
Shame you can't take it with you, it's only useful as long as you've got no Idol or Dame to worry about.
