Kisses provide health. If you had 100k and kisses were 20k you could get 5 more health. Health is the most valuable resource since you can only get 1 per stage if your lucky, unless you pay most of your cash for it.

Pshaw, whatever.

Derek Yu has said something about altering the machete though, to actually make it useful. What do you think he's gonna do?

If it replaces the whip on pick up, that alone would make it worthwhile.

Just had a random thought. 1 in 1000 chance to replace the idol in any stage with a sword that fires beams at 4+ health.

Is there some way to make this game a... little easier...?

I've died 300 times and only seen world 3 twice. It sort of stops being fun after a while...

Yah, it sounds like minecraft with content, you have obviously missed the point, people dont like content, they like different coloured blocks.
Seems to work fine with my copy. As soon as I loaded the human caravan came by and the world burst into fire.

I've died about ten times and haven't even seen level three.  Only Incursion comes close to that level of roguelike deaths, and that's only because I've forgotten how to play it.

Just died for my three-hundredth time. Beat the game once, and I'm on my way to the City of Gold. So, I guess it has a difficulty curve that varies wildly between players.

I would bet money Andrew has edited things retroactively, except I can't prove anything because it was edited retroactively.

For those complaining of dieing, THIS IS A ROUGELIKE!!!! You are expected to die, learn from how you died, and do it again. Then you die again, learn a bit more, and do it again. Then you die a third time, forget to learn from it, and do it again. Then the fourth time you die the same way as the third time, learn never to do that again, and go again. Repeat ad nauseaum until you no longer enjoy the game and simply keep playing until you obtain victory.

This new generation of gamers depresses me. I remember dieing several hundred times before I finally beat SMB. Now people expect to win with a mere 5 deaths. You know when I was a youngen I had to walk FIFTEEN MILES in the snow just to play legend of zelda. Now you whippersnappers just boot up your dang fool come putt hers and download your elf fortresses and fishing nethacks and expect to just have the win handed to you.

Heh, I tried one of the earlier betas of this game a few months ago.  As a fan of roguelikes, and also a fan of trying game ideas entirely unheard of (a platformer roguelike, for instance), I give this game a thumbs up, and the author has my respect.

Also, Aquaria was very nice, though I only checked out the demo.

beorn080: There's a balance between dying being sort of fun and dying just being frustrating. This particular game tends towards the latter for me.

chaoticjosh: I give him all my money. I've gotten the first shortcut, but rarely make it past the jungle to give him all my money again. Going through the cave makes you slightly more prepared for the jungle but all the more depressing when you get spiked/spiked/eaten/etc.

It's a neat game, but it's really damn frustrating.

I find it interesting that in the "kiss shop", you cannot get away without the wrath of the shopkeeper behind you, if you pick the girl up and don't buy her. Since she'll start running around after you drop her, and once she runs out of the shop...

Btw, I was once able to shoot the shopkeeper with his own shotgun.

For me, the trick is to use the shortcut to practice strategies on that level, not make serious runs from it.  It was especially useful on the ice levels, where it took several runthroughs to figure out how not to die there.

Is there any way to save the game mid level and come back to it at a later date?
