I belive that norse only used swords, axes and spears. The spears was probably not used by the freemen or thanes but rather the serfs that was brought along to fill out the raiding crew.
At the time, blunt weapons was less effective than the bladed due to the rarity of well armored foes and platemail was unheard of. Blunt weaponry became more used later on with the usage of heavy armor that protected against blades.
I've also heard that the nordic iron was rather frail and to counter this more iron was used wich made the weapons rather heavy. The blades was sharpened but even a sideways hit would cause quite some blunt damage.

Oh, and Mjölnir should be a onehanded sledge-like hammer as far as i know.

Forgot to mention that the shields used was a large buckler that should almost reach the shoulder when held by a outstreched arm. I'ts purpose was not just defensive but used to bash the opponent with the edge or to lock him so one could get a clear strike

Actually sword was an expensive weapon and was used by nobility only. Thus nordic swords were quite ornate and beautiful.

I gave them kite shields which were used quite often too.
Thank you for your idea on heavier weapons.

Nobility you say. There was the cheiftain and his weaponthanes, then thare are the freemen and the serfs.
There was no large cities and every settlement for themselves so there are still a lot of people eglible for nobility.

This is what I call nobility ))). My norse knowledge is limited by the game King of the dragonpass. There you were the chieftain and there were weaponthanes which were "promoted" from civillians and were a bit higher caste.

Currently I'm playtesting nords and I say we need more tundra/glacier creatures. Since I solved the only-wolves problem with new temperate creatures time to go to cold areas.

Megabeasts are wanderers I must say. In the latest world I had a bronze colossus which killed humans, then he went south and started killing nippons when suddenly he turned to the extreme north and destroyed a few norse weaponstores before being killed by their master axeman.

leprechauns, kill them and steal their gold.
No seriously, arent most monsters already made? more normal animals perhaps.
I've played KoDP, and its good, too but never mind that. Most free men in norse society was expected to be able to fight and raid and surely, any wealthy person could get himself an ornate sword but that does not mean that the freemen does not afford a simple one.

Oh, really, a leprechaun which disappears on death and spawns gold. Nice.

For me DF has a small variety of creatures (if you don't count *-men) so it would be good to have more things to hunt. Just my opinion.

OK, I've released version with norse but new creatures are not in still because I playtest them to find possible bugs in body structure/temperature.

Were kangaroos in?  If not, put those in.  Also, split tigers into multiple types of animal.  That means Bengal tigers, Sumatran tigers, etc.  Do the same with kangaroos, and put in wallabies, too.  That would be awesome.

Nice ideas. I wanted to add not fantasy creatures too, but I didn't know where to start :). Tigers and kangoroos then (and snow leopards).

Tiger, Lion, Panther, Jaguar, Cheeta, Lynx, etc. Might be a better idea to make different felines than just differating the names on tigers.

Oh, and to keep the brutal spirit of DF, Make it so that one have to butcher the leprechauns for the gold.

And for your snowy biomes, sabre tooth cats, mammoths, wooly rhinos, giant elk would fit.

Tried it.  Doesn't work like that.  Butchering products are hard-coded.

But you will be able to find them in wilderness and if lucky enough (they are quick bastards!) you will get your pot of gold!

Test the "bloody werewolf head <bounty>" and such value, it looks like they are a bit overpriced now (you get them as drop from rare creatures like "lone werewolf" etc.).
