Psychologist profession

How about a "psychology" job that let's a dwarf give therapy to someone who has gone insane or melancholy?  If they're low-skilled they could obviously make the troubled dwarf worse....

Dwarves have evolved to essentially tough it out, so something like that may be a bit out of place, although it would definitely be useful.

Maybe you could make a loonie bin? Assign a cage to Dwarven Justice, and any dwarf goes funny in the head, the Sheriff sticks them there...

Hi!

Well, the "loonie bin" would definitely be a nice thing, especially if health care dwarves would then be able to feed the insane dwarf so that they don't die of hunger or thirst. Those random deaths by mood are the one thing that depresses me the most.

A psychologist doesn't really fit the medieval setting very well anyway.

Dwarf psychologist doesen't sound too stupid to me. It's just that dwarven psychology shouldn't be so sophisticated as we understand it and I doubt they'd use such a fine word for it. Maybe something more along the lines of "hammering the stupid snot until he snaps out of it".

Oh, wait, I believe they do it already. No worries then.   :D

Dwarven psychology is mostly alcohol-based.

I'd prefer a noble to do this... and who uses alcohol or drugs to calm the dwarf down...

I remember a while back, someone suggested a priest noble. Well, I think this is the niche they should fill. Giving little happiness boosters and occasionally talking a member of the flock out of a murderous rage sounds like something a dwarven priest would do.

I will mod in plastic as a resource.  I will then tweak the Dwarven civ entry so that coins are only made out of plastic, and are called "credit cards".
I will make dwarves purchase things with bushels of credit cards.  It will be a mockery of both systems.
It will be stupid.  But it will be gloriously stupid.

Seconded. Religion seems completely absent from the game for the moment, although I bet it's going in later. Priests should definitely give happy thoughts, and stave off bad ones.

We add out name to those who support this role being filled by a priest.

Dwarves need nobles in order to procure alcohol now?

Well, if Dwarf Fortress were a Lovecraft story...

1. Put insane dwarves in cages, barely feed them, and treat them like animals.

2. Hire alienists to stand around watching them and studying their behavior.

3. Tetthush cancels study patient: Eaten by an Elder God.
