Can someone upload me a save which shows a working screwpump in action for irrigation? The save needs to be compatible with mike maydays pack.

I am looking for uploads of quite far on fortresses so as to learn from them, specifically organisation , late game and get some ideas about pits and other contraptions

Thanks :)

I recommend going over to the community games forum and downloading some of the succession forts in progress.

Also, I personally never irrigate - I've always gotten soil, even though I don't look for it. You can build a farm in soil without irrigation.

For subterranean soil you'll want to irrigate it if you want to fertilize it. If it's outdoors sometimes (depending on biomes I guess) you'd get these 1 or 2 rock/pebble tiles that get in the way of your plots.

Fertilizing is worthless since you need what, 7 logs every month for a simple 10x10 plot. The effect should last a year for such amounts

Not only that, most of the time you end up with several times more plants than you can ever consume. The only reason I keep on planting is to give my farmers something to do, same goes with my potash makers. Obviously, I don't fertilize all my fields. That'd be a waste of logs.

Thanks alot all :) however its more just to see how irragtions done and how to utilise screwpumps, axles , waterwheels and how to channel/move water horizontaly and vertically. This fortress is all about learning the tools more than anything else.

I have been checking the forums which have lots of succesion games in them but I cabt find any which use irragation

Not true. Soil never requires irrigation. Soils are typically brownish in color. Rock always requires irrigation. Rock is usually dark grey or white.

You misunderstand me. Subterranean soil (not rock) for the use of subterranean crops don't require irrigation for planting but they require irrigation for fertilizing. Try it out and see for yourself. If it's unirrigated it will always show Ft 0/1 but if you try to press f it won't let you fertilize it. Using the Season fertilize option won't work either even though you can toggle it on. If it was irrigated the Ft number will rise up according to how big your plot is and you will be allowed to fertilize it.
