Nocturne Of The Damned
« on: December 30, 2008, 05:50:43 am »

Gather round all ye dead and merry,
and fill the forum with tales of fear!
You shambled masses, you lifeless and scary,
with wounds both rotting and severe!

But on with the point, I hear you plea!
Let us start this rhyming zombie RPG!

The rules and simple and quite concise,
All actions must rhyme and be in verse.
No stats, no tables, no dice -
You play the dead, corpses most diverse!

Speak in haiku, sonnet or song,
as long as it rhymes we'll all get along.

You start in the town of Little Deaftone,
Where few people still dare draw breath.
Scattered about town, scared and alone,
visit upon them the living death!

Act as one, or form a horde,
The taste of flesh is your only reward!

So, awful rhyming scheme aside, this is perhaps the internet's first musical zombie-themed RPG. It's quite simple - it's much like RTD, in that there's no real failure of anything. It's all about the articulation - if you can convey it in song, sonnet, or poem, then it'll pretty much be possible (within the realms of practicality, of course) The only restriction is that your 'actions' must rhyme - feel free to borrow any other characters, settings, or props needed to get the most out of your musical adventures.

The kind of zombie you play, the personalities they have, and their particular style of musical expression they possess is entirely up to you. The pale, wasting Haiku-spouting Zombie Samurai? The lumbering, rapping bloated Zombie? The everyzombie of the horde, belting out inspirational hits, vowing to make something of himself? Whatever you want! Simply post a short description of the character you're playing and then start rhyming. I'll intercede from time to time to make sure that things are progressing nicely, adding events that are needed to move the action along, and every now and then putting the best of the songs into a collection and posting it up somewhere for everyone to have a good look at.

Here's a character layout template (just to make things easier to read):

Name: Self-explanatory.
Style: The mood, form, style, whatever of the lyrics you'll be writing.
Instrument: Just something to add some flavour. Singing zombies are one thing, but singing zombies belting out awesome flute solos? Even better.
Bio: Maybe something from pre-death here, or even post-death. Remember, you can be any kind of Zombie you want - you don't have to be a brain dead mumbler.

Have at you, lads and ladettes. You start out in the small country town of Little Deaftone, which has been overrun with undead. A few survivors still manage to eek a living out of the town, hiding in their safehouses at night and attempting daring raids for food and ammunition during the day. What comes next?

WTF?

Sorry, although I'm a good writter of marching songs, I don't play as the dead.

This is a great idea. It's a totally preposterous, great idea. I'll try and think of a character.

Wow, I'm surprised somebody went COMPLETELY out of the RTD and similar rpg fads. I'm practically sure no one ever thought of a singing zombie rpg. I hope you get players soon, can't wait to read some of the rhymes (I might enter later on, when people have already started playing, just to get an idea of how it is played...)

Kudos for a very original concept.

Unfortunately I don't think in rhymes well so I'm not joining.Sorry.

I like how people post in these threads for the express purpose of telling everyone they won't be posting in these threads.

Anyway, can't wait for the entries to come on in. I'm assuming that this thread will float up and down for a while whilst people work feverishly on their songs and take the time needed to craft them into splendorous musical works. I'll make sure the thread stays alive - or undead, I suppose  ;)

Perhaps I should say
that haiku is fine as well -
they don't need to rhyme.

...because it's too damn hard anyway  ;) Haiku's don't have to rhyme to count, but I'd probably prefer to see them as part of a larger rhyming song overall. But a series of haiku are fine, or just general poetry. I only added the 'must rhyme' rule so that we don't get a bunch of pointless Free Verse nonsense.

Name: The Decaying Horde
Style: Generic, frequently about how being a zombie is great, or how all survivors will be de-brained eventually
Instrument: Usually none, but sometimes parts of the urban environment (such as machinery) are used.
Bio: The Decaying Horde is not an individual zombie. It is a massive crowd of them, most of whom are zombies with newly discovered musical sort-of-talent. While most of them could not make music in life, they can now, and they use their gift to bring song to the dying city. They can sometimes be joined by survivors and less nondescript musical zombies for songs.

Name: Joe "The Tank" Hopkins
Style: Simple rhyming
Instrument: none
Bio:
His entire life was spent working out
to prepare for some coming bout.
He took many a steroid
together with his best friend Floyd.
Alas, this destroyed his brain and he was soon left unemployed!
He wandered the streets, mugging the weak and the old
He was pitiful to behold.
Then one night by a crazy man he was bitten
And with insanity he was smitten!
He foamed at the mouth and ripped his shirt
and fell over and rolled in the dirt
as all his muscles convulsed and grew.
After his transformation he had an urge to pursue
anyone with a brain still edible and fresh
and maybe treat himself to a little human flesh.
If there is any left after he has smashed them into paste
that is quite questionable in regards to taste.
