Some raw dicrepancies.
« on: December 29, 2008, 03:22:39 pm »

Just a couple things that don't seem right.

Minotaurs are natural swimmers like most creatures that can't learn. I don't think a bull headed man is any more designed for swimming than a regular humanoid.

Satyrs and Foul Blendecs can't open doors despite having hands and being intelligent enough to figure it out.

Iron Men can swim.

Iron boats are mostly hollow.
Iron men are solid iron.

Iron boats float don't they?

That's because they're designed to displace more mass of water than their own mass. Human form, not so much.

I imagined iron men to be sorta like the tin man from the wizard of oz; mostly hollow with iron skin; like a boat.

Then why are they so deadly?

@Peewee: If they're really just animated suits of armor, "why are they so deadly?"

Right, and birds stay up solely because god makes them float.  No.  There should be something less "deus ex machina" (god in machine) explaining why.  Like "they are magically animated by wizards and are magically strengthened."

Ok, how about the obvious explanations for why they're tough, then;
-Iron skin = hard to damage
-Iron arms = heavy = harder hitting
-Iron organs = they don't wear out/take damage as easily
-They were probably engineered by dwarves at first (because magic isn't implemented yet :P), so of course they're tough. They were designed to reproduce, sustaining the population. They eventually turned rogue and went wild.

Is it so hard to believe that iron men are so strong that they're just doggy paddling really intensely.

also, it'd be funny for a wet iron man to slowly become a rust man.

"deus ex machina" (god in machine)

God From (the) Machine.  Originates from the ancient Greek stage plays where gods were lowered from the heavens via crane above the stage.

Right, "from," sorry.  But the point remains the same.  If iron men are going to be like the tin man, you'll need a better explanation than "cause Toady made it that way."

Yes. Yes it is. There's no way it can displace water fast enough to offset it's own weight. And another thing, even if they were hollow, iron men would still sink. It's the shape of iron boats that lets them float. Otherwise you couldn't put heavy things in a boat, which are pretty much the best way to carry lots and lots of really heavy things.

Is it so hard to accept that they don't need one little tag? I'd rather have creatures that are at least mostly intuitive when it comes to things like this instead of having to come up with some outlandish excuse every time a minor mistake appears. Does it even effect your gameplay in any way? Would one of your games be ruined if iron men couldn't swim? Why isn't anyone making all sorts of stupid excuses why satyrs can't open doors and minotaurs don't need to learn how to swim?
