I am currently modding in a race of space cowboy robots that ride giant mantises and have guns that shoot veloceraptors.

that one part makes the whole mod cool. 8)

Anyone here ever try to use an elephant in adventure mode?

No, but have you tried playing as the Incredible Hulk? It's like being an Elephant with 250 damblock, almost insta-kill attacks, and you can open doors  8)

I always picture them as the Kroot or Kroothounds from Warhammer 40k.

I don't recommend going to the bottom of the ocean as a spirit of fire.

He he he, too late... ;D

Seriously though, I just HAVE to find out what happens after you spend 8 hours sleeping in the ocean!  But man, this will take FOREVER to process!   :-X  At least with dual core I can still do other things while it thinks...

legends screen entry for Singularity :

Singularity was a Spirit of fire.

in 255 Singularity waged war against the Dwarf civilization The flickering treaty.

(several pages of dead dwarves)

In 256 Singularity retired to the Ocean of Chains to sleep, emptying it if its water, and altering the climate of The Bright Continents.

The precipitation of the Bright Continents increased substantially. deserts became forests. mines were flooded. there were lots more swamps. at least the elves were somewhat happy.

I seriously want to try sleeping on a glacier now as a spirit of fire. (I suppose the ocean trick would be fun, but since it wouldn't change anything in Dwarf mode...)

The only monsters I've played in adventure mode are...I tried playing a Siren once, I tried being a succubus once, and I tried being  a goblin once. I was rather surprised people didn't just randomly attack me.

I've been having fun lately playing as Tentacle Demons. I added [GRASP] to their claws :). Plus they start with a good bit of wrestling skill.

The elves didn't hardly stand a chance...

EDIT: oops, major necro...

Did that actually happen?

yes. yes it did.

actually, if you check above my post a forum member called singularity is saying he/she has to find out what happens when a spirit of fire goes to sleep at the bottom of the ocean, so im just speculating as to what the legends entry would be for such an act. im pretty certain DF does not model precipitation changes due to a fire spirit evaporating away an entire ocean, and the effect on the world as a result.

although it would be completely awesome if it did, and the way toady is going with the whole world simulation thing, it wouldnt surprise me if it was possible in the future.

desert reclamation: demonic terraforming projects anyone?

So did we find out what happened if you slept underwater as a spirit of fire?

currently I know that water doesn't drain off the edge of the map, so only the one square "LOCAL MAP AREA" of the world map would drain.

I know this because I suddenly stumbled on a breached underground river while traversing a tunnel road during adventure mode. the water only starts moving once you reach the edge of the new "map" area, (and oddly, it "despawns" when you leave that map area, to perpetually destroy adventurers who accidentally stumble upon it.

Toady typically doesn't do things by half measures.  As evidenced by turning "make hauling work better" into "implement mine carts with physics".
There are many issues with this statement.
