[TRADE_CAPACITY:15000000]
« on: December 27, 2008, 02:46:08 pm »

In my attempt to import more of everything, I decided to change the trade capacity of the wagon, found in creature_equipment.txt. Upon the next visit from the caravan, I was made to wait for several minutes while Dwarf Fortress violated the second law of thermodynamics in a major way. The FPS of my fort went from about 120 to 20 and the traders never finished unpacking. I decided to destroy the trade depot, and the moment of its destruction also took several minutes to calculate. In the end, I obtained thousands upon thousands of units of goods. I now wonder if I am guaranteed a siege.

On a side note, this does confirm that items do indeed cause lag even if it is in certain circumstances.

Destroying goblin clothing and the billion rocks may indeed make your game run faster.

Raw hides: 1
Kinda looks outta place :p

From the wiki:
Quote
Goblins will send kidnappers and ambushers once your fort's population or wealth reaches a certain amount, and will start sieging once your population reaches 80. Sieges will increase in intensity depending only on how many previous sieges you have survived - a population higher than 80 does not increase the number of goblin siegers.
So you'll get ambushed a lot, but sieges won't go really bonkers.
mm... Whats the wealth of the fortress? :D

Well, the caravans don't bring raw hides.

I don't know what the wealth was. It got a bit too slow to play, since I had over a thousand animals and only six dwarves with which to process them.

Now what did we learn?
That Dwarf Fortress is not Thermodynamics-compatible, unless magma is involved.

It's known as the Oppai-Kaiju effect. The islands of Japan generate a sort anti-gravity field, which allows breasts to behave as if in microgravity. It's also what allows Godzilla and friends to become 50 stories tall, and lets ninjas run up the side of a skyscraper.

I don't know what the wealth was. It got a bit too slow to play, since I had over a thousand animals and only six dwarves with which to process them.

I find that dwarven light speed is an excellent way to turn 6 dwarves into ERROR dwarves.

Good luck digging out stockpiles big enough for it all, though!  That or dumping it all into a single tile pit and pumping magma onto it.  While maybe more FPS-hitting than a chasm, it sure is pretty.  Then again I would expect 30,000 units of dwarven booze igniting at once with millions of other combustibles the equivalent of taking the entire generated world and placing it directly under a bridge.

Not only would it destroy your FPS, but you'd probably end up collapsing the universe, too.

At the very least, your embark site would be a smoking crater and those 40,000 units of ammunition, 10,000 units of meat, 3000 individual weapons, 30,000 seeds, and last but not least thousands upon thousands upon thousands of miscellaneous goods of various materials would rain down in smoldering fragments for the better part of a week if they aren't instantaneously vaporized in a caustic, toxic vapor that makes anything it touches extremely drunk right before the crippling pain followed by death.

But of course, the only way to find out for sure is to test it.  Do it.
