Some people will hate me for this...
But Oblivion is good if you don't expect it to be uber realistic. Honestly, how realistic can a game with magic get? And if you don't like fast travel, don't use it. But I'll end the rant here.

Halo is pretty good, but you said you weren't into the that.

Rainbow Six Vegas 2 is pretty fun, I just got it. Not a very in depth story or anything but still fun.

I already own Oblivion for the PC, I play it at my friend's place.
I'll reconsider Halo I guess.
I just don't see how it is different from the 20+ other FPSers that are almost the same.

It isn't any different, but co-op + legendary + plus EVERY skull makes it very fun.
Especially when it gets to the point that you and your team mate aren't even trying to finish the level anymore.

I like meleeing my teammate in the back while playing co-op. Hehee.  Good times. You can't resist the temptation!

In defense of FPS : Realism varies greatly between games, so does cover encouragement.  (Try playing Halo 3 after GoW and you'll see what I mean)

That said, I'm surprised noone has mentioned Dead Rising.  Zombies in a mall, and you get to play there.  Dirt cheap these days, too

Operation Darkness is worth money, but it scales poorly.  (TRPG)

Fallout 3, Oblivion and Mass Effect are all good RPGs with FPSish Combat, even if their stories (subplots) are a little cookie cutter.  (Actually, Mass Effect was the first RPG I've ever actually LIKED the story in, but I HATE Japanese RPG stories).

Web of Shadows was worth renting, but the new PoP game isn't

Braid is worth the cash...

the new hulk is a pretty good casual game, but there's no depth.  If you like jumping from building to building and punching tanks to death, this is a good one.

CoD 4 is (IMHO) the cream of the online FPS crop, but Halo is more... fun, and L4D is... probably the best team game out there.

What was the flow chart?  Do You Have Friends?  (No: Buy a PS3) Yes?  Are they real people?  (Yes: Buy a Wii) (No: Buy an Xbox)

That's quite true actually. I haven't really met a PS3 owner who bought the PS3 for the multiplayer.

Though PC falls into all three categories.

Here's a vote against buying Oblivion for Xbox 360.

I actually owned the game on my PC and had dozens and dozens of mods for it.  I went out and bought Oblivion for the 360, thinking I could get better frame-rates, without the expense of graphic horse-power.  Boy was I wrong.

Going from an Anti-aliased, modded-up version of Oblivion to the vanilla 360 Oblivion was like playing a completely different game.  Without AA, the game looks terrible.  Without mods like leveled-list removers, and Martigen's Monster Mod, the world is unbelievably dull.

So yeah...don't buy Oblivion for the 360.  PC pwns it.

Has anybody played the new Prince of Persia yet?  I've heard it has an open-world feel to it, and the climbing kind of reminds me of Shadow of the Colossus.  Is it any good?

I'm always on the lookout for a good open-world game.  Preferably one that I can play in front of my kids.

How about the latest Destroy All Humans?  I actually liked the first one, even though it got low scores.  Are the sequels at least as good as the first one?

...  It's an open feel in the same sense that a racing game is open.  All you're really doing is racing from point to point, clicking the right button when the visual cue for it pops up.  There's a lot of choices, but not really.  (Go down this path, push the buttons in order to get the the next node, which has a few choices for the next node)

It's definitely something you can play in front of kids.  There's a small amount of violence against poorly anthropomorphized creatures.  It's pretty cartoony.

The game is beautiful, but they destroyed everything that made the first three great.

I got an Xbox recently as well, I have
Gears of War 2 (beat it, it was pretty good as far as FPS's go)
Assassin's Creed (very cool, I really recommend it)
Dead Space (very cool as well, and very creepy, recommended)

When I get Live (yes, I got an Arcade, sue me) I plan on getting L4D.
Guitar Hero would be a good choice if you like the series.

Oh yeah, and sometime this year (2009, remember!) Splinter Cell: Conviction if you like spy/sneak/action games. Not too much info about it is available yet, but I'm excited.

Pandemic made a new game, basically Star Wars Battlefront in the Lord of the Rings universe.  I've played the demo.  If it stays the same as it is now, it might be a rent if you're really into that kind of things.  Combat's very unbalanced, to the point where almost everyone plays as scouts or mages.  Also, in the days of broadband internet, 8v8 in a game with LotR's scale is unacceptable.  Gears of War is 5v5, but it's small-squad tactics, and aside from two-piecing, is relatively balanced.

Chalk Lord of the Rings up to EA.  It's still worth trying the demo, though.  Playing a troll is pretty fun.

I second not buying Oblivion for Xbox. I had it for the 360 first, and played for a while, but the auto leveling of loot and enemies killed the game for me. So I bought it for PC, modded it, and now it's one of my favorites.

I have Oblivion for the PC, it's way better then the Xbox 360 version in my opinon.   ;D

Except it ain't (grammer) as pretty as the 360 if your computer isn't that good.

EDIT:   Ofcourse, if you have a really good computer then it would look even better then the 360.
