Well, we already have a "transparent" colour in the tiles, for those times the game wants to draw the background inverse.

But transparent overlays with this small tiles can get really cluttery, which means you run the risk of making things look worse than the current situation.

Just plain tiles is good enough for me, and at any rate it's a start.
