I guess that my plan would be to gt a message to Earth saying 'I'm alive' and asking for a rescue mission.

On the other hand, renaming my self Jon Carter Strife of Mars sounds fun too.

I don't know why I thought I'd have to do all the thinking myself.  You people are a font of ideas.  Though I do have to rule out any kind of serendipitous cooperation.  Obviously everyone is trying to stay alive, but at least right now, I'm relying on the honor system for people who aren't in communication yet to be taking their actions in an appropriate double-blind.  And for perhaps the first time in RPG history, I'm ruling that talking is not a free action, however frantic.

By the way, practical nuclear physics isn't as hard as it sounds.  I refer you all to the case of David Hahn, a Boy Scout with too much free time, who built a sort-of functional breeder reactor in his toolshed with some radium paint and gas lanterns.

I'm starting on the next turn now.  I notice Squeegy hasn't posted yet - if I get done before him, it's our first case of Space Madness.  Luckily he's not in any imminent danger.

wow, never would have thought making a nuclear reactor would be that easy.

Just in case anyone else is confused - an ICE is an Internal Combustion Engine.

And we'll need a lot more than we have here to get any kind of fission going on.
Tony Stark may have "BUILT IT IN A CAVE! WITH A BOX OF SCRAPS!!!", but as the target of that phrase responded, none of us is Tony Stark.

Ahhh, but I AM STRIFE. In this game anyway. And if Strife had been in a cve with a box of scraps, he would of rebuilt the Bismark. On treads.

Plus, I picked nuclear stuff as my skill. I did not, however, list what sort of reactor was on the trip. I'd assume that NASA would we be smart enough to have a reactor type that would not require a precious resource on Mars. Although, NASA . . .

Ack! Forgot I joined. I look for wreckage to build a shelter with. Also, I'm now regretting not putting much into my backstory. I've got absolutely nothing.

Aqizzar, bless us with the results? :P

Been working on them all afternoon.  This early in the game, I'm still making a lot of systematic stuff up on the fly and cross referencing everything I need to keep track of.  I'm about halfway done, but I have to go to work now.  I'll probably be able to post sometime around early morning.

Even so, with eighteen players to account for, a turn every couple days is all you should expect.  (Especially considering it's the man in the fridge complaining.)  I'm too meticulous to just throw crap up, and writing results takes a little bit.

Which brings me to a couple questions.
One, does anyone here have some skill with image editing?  I need to make some maps and vista pictures, but I can't do anything but MSPaint my way to results, and that'll either be slow or ugly.

Two, Kashyyk, who is this 'Joe' you speak of?

Three-

You people are so good for ideas.  I might never have to think of a plot hook at all.

I could do it too, but, you should probably make it in MS Paint and let someone (like Pandarsenic, or I,) to do it over, and make it pretty. (He's the artist though.)

I'd assume that NASA would we be smart enough to have a reactor type that would not require a precious resource on Mars. Although, NASA . . .

Generally speaking, you wouldn't need to overly worry about running out of power with a nuke reactor, as even small-scale reactors that are extremely simple and self-contained (and therefore somewhat less efficient) should go for atleast 5 years before needing fuel, and even then, that's generally only to maintain maximum output.
The majority of fuel rods that are no longer in use are still quite viable for lower output levels.

Getting fuel rods is less a problem than the power output itself.  I'm more concerned with figuring out how big a reactor needs to be to generate a given amount of power, and I know the design of that is a critical consideration.  As Fallout 3 so wonderfully reminds us, back in the 60's they could build radial-nuclear reactors of roughly the same size and power output as a car motor.

(I think the proper term is radiothermal - basically, it's a "reactor" that just boils water with the heat of a naturally decomposing isotope.  They're bulky and produce little power for their size, but they can be small, and are no more dangerous than just a loose fuel rod.  They're mostly used today to power satellites when solar panels aren't feasible.)

EDIT: It just occurred to me that I can dig out my old GURPS Vehicles book and come up with a reasonable estimate of a reactor weight.  Any learn'ed objections to that plan?

For image editing, my big problem is blending objects into the photo, which MSPaint can't do.  I suppose I could just download GIMP or something, but trying to learn how to do this myself would just slow the process down.  I only really need vista-type pictures for a few turns until enough people are in contact to make an actual map.  I'll handle this one myself, and if anyone thinks they can improve what I post, go right ahead and I'll send you next turns pics to spruce up.

Also, yes, I'm back to updating right now because I unfortunately have the night off.  Shouldn't be too much longer.
