Alright, I've got all the characters lined up and all the necessary locations designed.  Now I really need to go to sleep.  I'll arrange it all into an actual starting post when I get up, so if anyone still wants to join, now's the time.

Some commentary.  You all did a great job of thinking up survival situations on your own, and I've got a pretty good picture of the vessel and resulting crash.  I figured I'd have to do a lot more initial work, but the aftermath is writing itself.  No one will be in momentary danger when they land, but some people are in more dire situations than others.  This is probably going to be the least random turn in the game, as I'm placing people and resources to encourage finding each other and prioritizing your problems.

I did not expect Deadlycairne's entomology lab, and I love it.  Another possible method of waste-food-recycling now presents itself in his ant farms.  I promised you, life on Mars is going to suck.

Then there's Strife26.  Who the hell brings a trenchcoat to Mars?  I'm a little surprised you didn't squeeze in a katana or something.  On the other hand, you were the only person who thought to bring some reading material.

Sir_Geo, I'll have to change up the plane a little to accommodate physics, but it's a cool enough idea to keep.

... To be fair, all I have is a FRIDGE.

It seems I'm also somewhat late. Well, I'll stick a character in a spoiler box.

Heh, seems like you're one of few that's taken the G's of impact-landings into account.

Well, it's also good for gauging how ridiculous we'll be allowed to be. :X

Alright, I've incorporated even more people, and started on making NPCs and writing the actual post.  Registration is closed, because holy crap there's a lot of you.  Stay tuned, should just be a couple hours now.

One quick question- what is(was) the name of the spacecraft? I would offer Άρης, also known as Ares, the Greek equivalent of Mars (the god), who represented slaughter, bloodlust, and carnage. Thus, this would be the ISC* Ares III (*International Space Craft). After all, what better name for an exploding doom-boat than the abstract noun meaning the throng of battle?

Even better, Ares had two companions in battle, Deimos, "terror", and Phobos "fear", which now lend their names to Mars' two small moons.

Oh, and he was the father of the dragon that was slain and had it's teeth sown into the ground where they sprouted and grew into the fully armed battalion of soldiers that where the founders of... Sparta.

Edit: My vote is for ISC Ares III. If I know NASA, though, it would probably be the ISC ARES Mission Vessel III Mark 4 Cooperation, exploration and tactical research in co-operation with MARS CANDIES Inc. Primary, Sr. version 2.0.

That's a great question that I've been kind of struggling with.  On the one hand, a cold obvious moniker would befit it's bureaucratic conception.  On the other hand, a we-are-the-world unpronounceable tribal title would be just as stupidly fitting.  And on the mutant hand, naming it after something vaguely to do with Ares would be more inspiring.  Kratos and Leonidas are right out, but Lacedaemon, first king of Sparta, might work.

Tell you what.  I'll do like in The Core, and turn the name up to popular vote by you, the crewmen.

"The borrowed hand"? It would follow the mutant hand... Or the zombie's hand(fifth in line, if you cared to make so many points with such a crude numbering system)... What about steve? It would make an unusual spaceship name, but the comedic value is large. King steve?(from 8-bit theatre)

How realistic are we being?

If we wanted  complete realism, we'd all die on impact or have short Jacksonian experiences before dieing . . .
I'd vote for some degree of modification. just for playibilties sake, mind you 'fridge logic' shouldn't be allowed.
Just my thought.

I vote for ISC Άρης III

Since Ares is good, very good.

Of course, Bishamounten(sp? :P) (Shinto God of War) is good too...
