[40d] bug436 but grate instead of bridge
« on: December 23, 2008, 09:34:46 am »

As topic says- A floor grate, with constructed floor tiles to north and east(fifteen Z up, the lot), allows constructing of a floor on its other sides. However, immediately upon completing of construction, "A section of the cavern has collapsed!"- the stone fell and created a column of dust through all 16 Z.

The (floor) grate was in the closed/present/walkable position when this happened. It had been connected to two levers, one of which had been deconstructed, should this be of any import.

Erm. Not an issue?

Grates do not support stuff. If you build a piece of floor that is only connected to a Grate, with no support underneath it and no floor it can support itself on, you get a cave-in. IMO this is intended. It doesn't say so very clearly in the Wiki though.

The issue isn't so much that it's not supported as that it happily allows you to try to do this in vain.

I mean, there are applications (a way to drop a dust cloud on invaders- or whomever- for the low, low cost of 1 stone), but it'll catch you by surprise most likely since the interface is normally quite obstinate about requiring support for what you build.

Agreed. If it looks possible to build there, it should be possible to build there. Fooling the user = bad interface. :)
