I am interested in how people bury their dwarves when the poor souls die.
I usually apply a moderate effort unless I am in the process of building a mega-construction which prevents me from doing so.

The description after the colon is just an example to help you decide where your method fits in.

Minimal-low: Stuck in a stockpile to rot down to dwarf bones and skulls for emergency use as crafts.
Since, yanno, someone's gotta pay for dwarven skull totems.

Maybe I should make/assign coffins...
Nah.

Hell, maybe I can sell people human or elf totems?

EDIT: Drowned dwarves are left to rot in the water. As yet unknown how to fish the buggers out.

The Raven has been knocked unconcious!

Elves do it in trees. Humans do it in wooden structures. Dwarves? Dwarves do it underground. With magma.

Low effort for my normal games.

I was shocked when I saw moderate effort in place in the Halltraded game.

Current fort is/will be somewhere around high or high-maximum.

The fort itself is almost entirely above ground, while the catacombs go down ten z levels below the bottom storage level of the fort. The rooms themselves won't be overly extravagant for most dwarves (At least for now...once the fort gets large enough, I might out of boredom), but the overall design of the catacombs is something that I'm quite fond of.

Will be a while before I finish enough of the catacombs to post the design on the DFMA, however...

Moderate. Normal dorfs get little 1*2 cells, coffin and door. Dwarves I like get 3*2 with some furniture and smooth walls & floors. Exceptional dwarves (epic actions, legendaries) get 3*3 fully engraved.

Am I the only one that has these tombs lining the hallways?

Moderate effort for regular dorfs, High for the original seven, champions, fey moods that produce especially badass artifacts, and anyone else who does something to stand out in a good way.

My original miner who singlehandedly digs out the entire fortress sometimes gets Maximum treatment.

Too bad you can't actually make those. At least not last time I checked.

What, you've never placed a graveyard stockpile?

You can allow or stop your dwarves from eating these mushrooms, but it's entirely optional and doesn't turn Dwarf Fortress into Dwarf hookah-smoking pad.

They'll do it if they get in a weird enough mood.

Alright you just convinced me to move my graveyard stockpile directly underneath the workshops in my current fort. I hope I get some adamantine hammers spiked with dwarf bones.

Low to Maximum, depending.

Urists get a coffin in the regular graveyard. The starting seven get Moderate, as do most of the nobles.

Do something EXTREMELY amazing, like fight off 4-8 Siege squads on your own, and you'll get High or Maximum, depending.
