Giant Tree

Think about it.
It could have natural holes in it, full of critters and/or elves.  You could use Chop Down Trees as a mining-equivalent to shape it just like dwarves do their underground spaces.

And consider:  You could expand this into other 'unnatural' structures, like a Zerg-like fleshy complex, though that seems out of character for Dwarf Fortress.  Ice Mountains?

Also:  Jungles.  Multilayered, wide-spreading tree complexes.

The problem would be growing them: they would, if their relative width was to be preserved, grow from 1*1 square to 2*2. Of course, since now even dragons can fit into one square, they would need only to grow in height.. but that diminishes their potential somewhat. It could be a starting point though.

As the game currently exists, can living trees be stacked on top of other living trees? No, I don't mean by dwarfs, I mean, can you set the game up so that it will randomly produce tower-like trees?

Someone needs to make an Elves/trees megathread, to help this issue get actually addressed, as well as other tree-related suggestions. And Elf-related suggestions.
