The Ammochain hero called Moar DAKKA!
Killed the Cybie yet again. The game was mediocre the whole time.
I was overflowing with resources. Revenants dying in one series of DAKKA DAKKA DAKKA!
Twice did I encounter double Arch-viles next to each other.
Always guarded by a team of Revenants. I already died by my stupid mistake of forgetting that
I had the BFG, so I remembered to use my BFG actually. Once overly so, because I was running low on ammo.

Killing Cyberdemon was plain stupid. An overcharge globe spawned next to the stairs.
I ran stright at him. I emptied the BFG on him, and didn't even bother reloading.
Then DAKKA DAKKA DAKKA! into oblivion. If I had invincibility I would use the bomb.
Too bad. Could have been a full win.

Youch, I was experimenting with a cateye build on HMP, and befell a painful YASD.

Basically, the build was:

EE EE Int Int SoB SoB TrHy MCe SoB TrHy

I was doing EXTREMELY well, was using my trusty chaingun mostly, which gave me the upper hand since I knew where every enemy was thanks to intuition level 2, and I rarely needed to heal since I could prepare for every encounter, and I already know the existence of all health globes. However, a few levels into hell, I completely decimated a group of archviles, mancubi, and revenants, and the RNG gods frowned on my hubris and the next level I got was an Arachnotron cave.... and I spawn completely surrounded in a corner... and I used my last phase device a couple levels earlier... and I threw one away a few levels earlier than that to make room for more ammo...

I struggled valiantly, I whipped out my BFG and blasted away, but apparently 3 shots isn't enough for 6-7 arachnotrons, and I'm completely shredded despite every effort I could make to stay alive.

Lesson learned: "I don't care how well you THINK you're doing, always carry a spare phase device. Always."

We should make a thread about advice on DooMrl for newbies and people that suck at surviving in this game

I actually think gift dropping is really for wusses, and I never do it.
Maybe I don't know how or don't have the guts or patience to do it, but I just don't.
And I'm doing just fine.
Of course I'm still on HNTR level :P
Maybe I'll try HMP when I'll finally score that AoM.

Ammochain may seem overpowered, but it's VERY VERY necessary for Ao100. Fighting the hordes of Archviles and Revenants, especially when 2-3 revenants/barons are being revived at a time, necessitates a constant stream of heavy ordinance, and I think that any other build, even shotguns, would run out of ammo with how many non-ammo dropping monsters show up. Also, ammochain lets you use the rest of your inventory to carry med packs, phase devices, and envirosuits, which coming VERY handy.

I mean, groups of 4-5 mancubi/revenants were very commonplace, and archviles were around every corner in every level, so being crazy prepared was a prerequisite to surviving.

(Yeah, I know it's possible to do Ao100 without ammochain, but it sure doesn't seem like it...)

I like that I still get nukes, and that I can just completely bypass levels if I have invincibility going on. Getting to such high levels was neat, but once you hit a certain point, it's just not that useful to level up, since there isn't anything else that can really help you.

Really though, it got really monotonous at the later levels. It was an exciting, turbulent, unpredictable type of monotony, but it was monotony nonetheless.

What I was worried about most was my supply of armor. I had one really good armor, a agility/bulk/power modded red armor, which was my awesome super red, which I relied on mostly. I also had two other bulk and speed modded red armors to supplement my supply. I used every single armor shard I could find to repair my super red, and it pulled me out of alot of tough situations.

Damn barons though, their acid ball attack drains armor strength like crazy. It shaved off like 25% from my super red with every hit, it was crazy to just get hit once and need to repair it.

The various uniques I picked up weren't really useful. The only one I really used were the phaseshift boots. I carried the Onyx armor and hell staff around with me in case of an emergency, but I never used them.

What I'm very grateful for is that I found an advanced plasma rifle, which, as you can see, I modded quite a bit. I couldn't find any power mods for it though, which was very odd. I find a crapload of advanced combat shotguns, which were always a disappointment since I had no intention of using them.

Though, as the difficulty escalates, you learn to grow out of the habit of "Saving globes for when you really need them". Like, say, if things were easier, and I saw a supercharge, I'd go "I'll save it till the end of the level, when I go down", but when you're on level 80, you see that globe and go "GIMME GIMME GIMME! Even if there's nothing killing me right now, there's bound to be something killing me in a couple seconds!". Serious, that stuff never lasted long.

I had a respectable store of Homing Phase Devices, which I used sparingly and only in emergencies. They got me out of QUITE A FEW tight spots that might have ended in tragedy otherwise. however, in the last few levels, I shot them off one after the other to skip straight to the end, which was, ironically, an arachnotron cave. Arachnotron caves are really hard in normal games, but are actually a step-down in difficulty when a normal Ao100 level entails fighting 4-5+ archviles and 5-7+ revenants.

Jesus Christ, that took awhile, I'm glad I have so much free time.

Yeah, my number of losses is actually slightly larger, but I will sometimes use the (Q)uit command in order to exit a game if I'm stuck in a hopeless situation or frustrated, and the game doesn't record that as a loss.

Kind of abusable actually.

Nerk, these spider caves are just silly at times. Easily the most dangeous thing I've come across on HNTR.

The reason I'm saying this now is because I just died to two caves in a row while playing a Fireangel shotgun build. Not combat shotguns. Normal ones. I hadn't used a single med-pack up until those caves.

So, it turns out trying to reload while having no ammo costs time, since I just got blasted by a baron while trying to reload my empty rocket launcher without any ammo. Couldn't see the baron either, or I wouldn't have tried reloading.
