It was on ITYTD, but damn, so close. I had actually turned down a second thermie just moments before too! and I still had invincibility! Damnit it all to hell! Carmack REALLY spams those barons. Couldn't even get close to him.

Your problem was a lack of plasma cells. With the BFG, you should pretty much have wiped the floor with all those barons. I think the sympathetic explosions from BFG blasts also do damage, so your looking at massive damage to all of those.

Ah, so that's what happens when you nuke the Cyberdemon level while under invulnerability. I wanted to try it but never found a invulnerability globe close enough to the bottom.

Is Carmack supposed to be a reference to the Icon of Sin secret?

Not sure, but I'm still a little bummed, I got SO lucky and I blew it! Darn it all!

I had a pistol build, which was VERY nice since I found the Clerical Grammaton Bereta, and I power modded a pistol. Blasting off seven shots a each firing round, nearly all hitting due to eagle eye, and then automatically reloading thanks to Gun Kata.

It was a nice set up, which TORE through revenents, but I probably would have fell apart had I not found the Grammaton Bereta.

Does anyone have any good builds?

 It actually still works out well enough so long as you eventually find an advanced pistol. So long as you mod your boots for speed revenents should not be too much a problem. In fact, revenents and mancubi were no trouble whatsoever on my successful pistol run because they are just so slow I could unload both guns into the guys, duck behind cover to reload, then pop back out before they fire.

 Of course you are trash on any groups of enemies, so just going nuts with the BFG is the preferred way to take on that unholy cluster of barony.

YASD.  It kind of peeves me off that dying to John Carmack isn't at least a partial victory.  Means I have to luck through the horrifying first few levels of an AoB run again.

Alright, now I just need to finish a shotgun run and I'll start the harder difficulties. I might even dabble in AoB for a little bit, although the difficulty of it seems absurd.

 Edit: Also, I was expecting a bit more absurdities when starting Nightmare! mode, like demons on the first floor or something. As it stands this looks like a good farming method.
