DoomRL 0.9.9.6 out, GRAPHIC TILES

Ever play Doom?  Ever wanted it to be a roguelike?  Well then you have your game!  I found out about DoomRL when it came in second place last year in the ASCII Dreams: Rogue Like of the Year Award.  I started playing it yesterday and it's pretty fun you know, got shotguns, rocket launchers, and destructable walls!

Good stuff. I've been playing it on and off for 2-3 years; mostly off, but still. I think the farthest I've ever gotten is level 19 or so... can't remember for sure, as it's been a while. Still, 'tis a bloody good time, and a fascinating "pushing of the envelope" as far as roguelikes are concerned.

I play it at work some times. It's nice it uses the game's sounds and music. When people look at me playing doom with some crazy characters they start asking. :D

This game is awesome! It's the only roguelike i'v really played. Couldn't get into nethack, and i don't count DF as a RL since i rarely play adv. mode.

I've played it a long, long time ago, back in the days when the best thing out of Bay 12 was LCS :P

LOL, the sound effects made it fun. It's too difficult and repetitive for me to get into, but I like it more than the original Doom!

Quick question:  Anybody know if slapping a magazine mod on a double-barreled shotgun will do anything?

It it won't it'll say "This weapon cannot be modded with this mod," or something to that affect.

Dammit...  Stupid angel of berserk challenge, I can't get any deeper than level three.  And I've tried eight times, one of them just tried to run past everyone.


The only thing that's really worked for me so far has been shotgun-related.  But then I started running out of ammo later on in the show, where rockets became far more prolific.

The big shotty upgrade was really the one related to reloading, and reloading's useful for rockets, too...  Think I'll see how far I can get with that mentality.

I really want to love DoomRL, but the ironman design puts me off by making the game too difficult.  I'm used to *bands where I can grind periodically to stay some 5-10 levels ahead of the danger curve.  I will say that it's mercifully short (as opposed to *bands where I frequently lose characters I've put 10-15 hours into).

It's definitely worth a try, if you've got five minutes.
