I actually don't mind having to work for the difficulty levels and challenges, since they give me something to aim for other than "finish the game". :D

But I see where you're coming from Josh.

Ditto...  What bugs me is when there are achievements that you can 'accomplish' before you've unlocked and then not get credit for...

Have you won normally yet Vester? or do you just really like the Angel of Marksmenship Challenge?

I'm not a real good debater, arguing with others makes me anxious and nervous, so I'm not sure how I'm actually doing trying to suggest my proposed change.

I'm trying to be as courteous as possible, but I'm not sure how well I'm actually doing. Can anyone just take a look and tell me if I'm doing a good job?

So, uh, who else has won at this? I've beaten a single game on Easy, which is still a win in my eyes. Other than that, I've never gotten to Cybie.

I've got 2 normal (Hurt me plenty) wins, and I've gotten to the Cyberdemon on Ultra-violent, but I lost to it... with a friggin nuke in my inventory. :headdesk:

I've tried AoM, but died stupidly trying to get the Lance of Longinus.

I've heard rumors that killing the Cybie with a nuke while invulnerable opens up a secret area, but I never managed to find a globe close enough to the end.

Oh my god, is the artifact rate on Easy higher than usual? I was playing a shottyman build. I found the Cleric Beretta, the Anti-Freak Jackal, the Assault Shotgun, and the Railgun all in one game (got killed by Archviles).

Railgun, wow. That's the rarest unique in the game, according to the wiki.

Were you planning to go for whizkid? Or were you just trying out finesse? I enjoy having SoB on my shotty build, it makes the double shotgun extremely powerful.

I normally play AoM, so I got the Finesse out of habit. Although it made my double shotgun amazingly deadly, I suppose.

I'll have to try it out, as I wouldn't think that a marginal increase in firing speed would be that helpful.

That's what experimentation is for though, I guess.

I was playing a really good shotty build the other day though, and I found an advanced double shotgun. I was overjoyed... and then the game crashed. I can't wait till all these wrinkles are ironed out.

I'm really, really, REALLY turned off by how random your chances of survival are, no matter how good you are. It's the RNG that decides whether you live or die more than your personal skill or strategy.

While yes, it is more random then nethack regarding deaths, most times you can survive by planning ahead. Keep a phase distorter on you at all times, and you will almost never instantly die. A homing phase is even better, since you can skip the floor.

Yeah. You can skew the odds in your favour though with a good build, ample use of the dodging mechanic, and not using explosive barrels as cover like I always do...

The late-game isn't so bad, because by then you've stocked up on everything you'll need, and only a horrific stroke of bad luck will take you down.

The early-game though, with the two medkits that you may or may not be able to get before they're snatched, Hell's Arena (which is practically impossible at any difficulty higher than easy), and ANY of the challenges, with some of the experts that hang around the forums professing to need hundreds of tries in order to succeed.
