I beat Cybie on my first time though (YAAM, on ITYTD).  This is surprisingly fun.  I'm going through the challenges lately.  My first Marksman run (on the second-easiest difficulty) I got to the level right before the cyberdemon, without artifacts or anything, but got blown away by arachnotrons...

You beat the cyberdemon on your first try!!  :o


My first try I went to Hell's Arena thinking that's where you're suppose to go.  I was swiftly killed by two demons.  I found the stairs on the 2nd level by the way.  Or 3rd.   ???

I've been doing really good right now on Ultra-Violent.  Trying to beat it on that mode.  It's difficult.   ;D

Oh, I've just tried this game. It's very hard for me in terms of health, I always lack enough medikits to continue further. Also, I jumped in the Hell's Arena on 2nd level on my first run too... Managed to kill 3 lost souls and a demon until another demon ate me.

A question: are "lost souls" those burning skulls from Doom and demons - minotaurs?

When you target an enemy, you can hit M or something like that to bring up a little ascii picture and a short description. The lost souls are the skulls and the demons look at a lot like minotaurs, yeah.

At least Barons of Hell aren't as bad as Arch-viles. The game keeps dropping grops of Mancubi or Revenants on me, with one or two Arch-viles nearby for support. That way, I have to focus on the Arch-vile, because it will just resurrect the rest, while the Mancubi launch a few dozen fireballs at me per turn.

DoomRL is one of my favourite RLs, together with a couple of *band variants. Permadeath rules. :D

Especially the music and soundeffects are great. I still have a version of Doom (only slightly altered to make use of openGL graphics and mouse) on my PC along with the Doom re-release on XBLA.

Some classics just never die. And you can ALWAYS come back to Doom.

I would like all roguelikes a LOT more without the starving to death...

FYI, the AF Jackal will knock down the doors in the Halls of Carnage, if not the walls... (didn't try the walls)

Anything can blow out doors, even pistols. And the Anti-freak Jackal can take out walls as well, but it seems only to have a small chance of doing so.

The Anti-Freak Jackal is pretty useful in the early game if you manage to find it, but is outclassed in the late game by the Trigun, the Grammaton Cleric Beretta, and even a well-modded Advanced Pistol. The only real use for it later on is for Angel of Marksmanship games, where you can't bring along a Rocket Launcher and a stack of extra rockets to break through walls occasionally.

The special perk for mods allows you to add up to 4 slots/level on "special" items. What does it mean, "special"? I can't mod my GCBeretta at all :(. And my 2DA1 Minigun is much better than this pistol I've found on hell level 3...

It means Advanced Weapons, which start out with 4 mod slots instead of the usual one, and each rank of Whizkid adds another four. The only downside is that you can only have a maximum of three of each mod type, otherwise you could just take an Advanced pistol, and add 12 Damage Mods, so that it would do 2d16, or 2-32 damage with each shot.
