Obviously, i was wrong!

I'm on the same quest myself, lol.

If you've got Warcraft 3, download DoTA. Best multiplayer game ever made ;)

On the virtue on being Viral alone... It automatically disqualifies itself from being the best multiplayer game ever made.

I'd play BG or BG2 if I would take the time to use Hamachi.

bg?

Also, we never used hamachi. We're just using VPN tunnels, if a game has only lan functionality.

Fun fact: I don't know that much about networks, I have no idea how we did it, but at 3am we were eager to play black and white together, and we friggin set it up.

And about Warcraft: IF (and that'S a biiiig if) I could be bothered to play that one, I guess the nerd in me would rather play dune 2 or an early version of command and conquer, which is available for free up to which part by now? Afaik WC is nothing but a ripoff with a little twist, namely more resources.

If it werent for lost vikings, I'd say EVERYTHING from blizzard is an autmated disqualification. Blizzard makes games for non-gamers. And yes, Diablo series is nothing but mediocre, too  ;) We all played it   up and down for several times, but lets not kid ourselves, its decent at best. One of the few games that actually got surpassed by its ripoffers.

Anyway, this specific saturday night, when we were lookin for games, we ended up downloading F.E.A.R. Combat and the Co-op mod for it. Both available for free. (So much for "no fps games")

Boy I have to say... I never played a game that had such a nice performance. It looks AWESOME and its shitting out 200 frames per second, I'm gettin headaches from playing without VSync.

bg?

Baldur's Gate, you uneducated philistine.  One of the finest RPG experiences I have ever encountered in my life, the only thing that topped it was its successor.

But then again, I never got a chance to play Planescape.

Warcraft is fun, but most of the fun comes from the huge flexibility and power of the World Editor.
I agree that the concept is ripped from C&C, but that doesn't stop it from being a good game.

DoTA is automaticaly disqualified for the simple reason that it's NOT the best MP game. Hell, I can name vanilla WC3 maps that are better- Doomsday Stand, Nexus Arena, etc etc. Last time my DDS clan took on a supposedly good DoTA team, we reamed them so hard it was funny. They didn't know jack shit about teamwork other then choosing all powerful 1v1 characters and bunching up. We had the Lich guy, and I was playing Mage of 4 Seals, and the two of us together wiped their entire team in one attack just working together. He hit them with frost attacks before they fired back, And I ran in with invis, haste, bloodlust, etc, and hit my level 6, then hit them with all my multi-hit spells. Their entire damn team was nothing but silly solo characters :| [/rant off]

Soldiers: Heroes of World War II.  It's ten dollars on GOG.  You can also get it's sequel; Faces of War, on Steam.

Everything that can be changed at max. Apart from resolution and AA, both are somewhere in the middle. I think its thousand something by thousandsomething at 4xAA.

PC is nothing special, I guess, core2duo with 2.4 ghz, 2 gig woteverram, and a 9800gt, slightly OCed.

Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six: Vegas 2. Fps only in name as most of the time you are in third person view. 2 player co-op through the entire campaign. Get the demo or the internet version as retail is packed full with drm and it's coming from Ubisoft so even if you do buy it, Tom isn't going to see a single penny from your purchase.

What about Starcraft? Have you tried it? In my book it's on par with Age of Kings. The only problem is that it takes a loooong time to get any good at it. Then again, the same goes for AoK.

Starcraft is too rushy, just like Warcraft.  I don't like games where I feel like I have to move as fast as humanly possible in order to stand a chance.
