Yes, the 32-bit compatibility libraries.

DF may or may not be compilable in 64-bit mode; BC certainly is. However, Toady doesn't have a 64-bit machine to compile or test on.

Not here yet. I jumped the gun a bit, when Toady started linking it two hours ago.

But this way they'll be correct once it does get uploaded, so I'm not changing them back.

I can't find 32 bit libraries for SDL, and when I have everything in the folder I get this output ---
./dwarfort.exe: error while loading shared libraries: libSDL_image-1.2.so.0: wrong ELF class: ELFCLASS64
---
 any help?

You need the 32-bit SDL libraries. That's the 64-bit version.

Sorry, can't help you there. Ask in the IRC channel appropriate to your distribution - most likely #distroname on irc.freenode.org.

Xcode 2.5 on mac (that's gcc too) (soon to be 3.1 with an impending upgrade to leopard), gcc 4.1 on linux, MSVC on windows

This is something that's been answered several times already.  First off, though, what distribution are you using?  If it's Ubuntu or Kubuntu, then my previous post on the matter will do the trick:

http://www.bay12games.com/forum/index.php?topic=28841.msg380631#msg380631

You also need to have the ia32-libs package installed.

The 40d7 links in the OP should work now.

Incoming 40d6 success story:

I am on an EEEpc, running Linux.

On vanilla 40d, I got 4FPS in menus, <1FPS ingame without partial print, 40FPS in menus, 10FPS ingame with.

On 40d6, I get 300FPS in menus, 200FPS ingame without partial print, 500FPS in menus, 250FPS ingame with.

Turning on or off the FRAME_BUFFER option does not seem to impact speed so I turned it on as it leads to less screen messups in conjunction with PARTIAL_PRINT

Obligatory whoo first post. Those of you that go to the IRC channel should recognize me.

Getting uncapped intro movies in 40d7, which is amusing but probably unintended.  Framerate at main menu is much better, although oddly the framerate for an ingame paused screen is much higher -- menu gets ~2000, paused game gets ~7000, with cap at 10,000.

The framerate you'll get with the game paused now is basically luck of the draw; there are all sorts of subtle effects that can add or remove five thousand fps at a stroke.

Don't worry, though. It doesn't affect the real game.

EDIT: Well, unless you regularily get over 1000 fps with the game unpaused.
