pretty sure someone has noticed this, but search couldn't find anything.

interesting things happen to a elven forest retreat when it gets conquered by humans in worldgen:

1. a town is built on the site.

2. the elves who surrendered will start living the human way of life: i even found a elven butcher!

3. their clothes also change. the butcher was wearing black bear trousers, and found an elf hammerman wearing full chain armour.

It's even cooler when dwarfs take it over just to tell ya.

I so wish some form of practical slavery is implemented in the future.

Dwarf: ELF SLAVE!  CUT THOSE TREES!
Elf Slave: but my culture opposes such brutality against tree-kind. We can hear them scream as they're cut.
Dwarf: LIKE I CARE! CUT THEM TILL YOUR DEAD ON THE INSIDE!
Elf Slave: ...Yes master.
Dwarf: after that, the guys partying downstairs need a dart board!
Elf Slave: But the darts hurts so much...
Dwarf: Oh yeah, ya know that noble? He recently mandated a pair of Elf bone greaves. DO YOU WANT THAT MANDATE FULFILLED?!
Elf Slave: Oh god... I won't talk outta line again master...
Dwarf: Good! Now remember to congratulate them when they get a Bulls-eye!

On the less horrifying^H^H^H hilarous end of the spectrum, I'd love an Elven Ranger that could reveal Goblin ambushes without being seen himself.

I one time seen a town, tooken over by humans, with only a couple elves in it.  Each elf was a shop keeper, who had his own store and no house.  That is right, a town made out of just stores.

I've seen forest retreats where the humans take over for a time, build houses and a fort. Then the elves drive the humans out and tear down every building except the fort. Then the druids hang around inside the fort instead of wandering all over the place (oh, thank the maker). I haven't seen any elf temples produced in this way, though temples may be preserved as well since both forts and temples are made out of stone instead of wood.

They disassemble wooden buildings and bury the trees. But they are afraid to destroy stone constructions because they fear dwarven souls appearing from ruins :).

becaus the rest died, and the 4 couldnt mate, because their lovers fall in the battle. you know just monogamisn in df... there should be something you can put into the raws for monogam, polygam and even no pair, just mate with whatever is walking in front of you xD

From "Angroshs Kinder" Das schwarze Auge Zwergenhandbuch - (Angrosh Children, the dark eye, german pen&paper, dwarven handbook):
"Elves!? Their men dont wear beards, and their women bathe nacked to lure you into the water and drown you. Thank Angrosh they are as ugly as the day and all big and skinny."

Eventually the elves get used to the pain, and turn to the dwarven way of life, and thus the first awesome elves are born.

I am now curious what strange things would happen if dwarves ever managed to be conquored by elves? would they all start wandering around without proper clothing... or beer?

Toady typically doesn't do things by half measures.  As evidenced by turning "make hauling work better" into "implement mine carts with physics".
There are many issues with this statement.
