More breath weapons would be interesting; barring that, a template for a creature bow-type attack.

I absolutely agree. In fact I've suggested something like that even a while ago.  :)

I was quite irritated that (in a fairly recent version of DF) i had a ~23 year old fort that NEVER saw mounted goblins, and never saw trolls. Just run of the mill goblins with the occasional -master. Lots of megabeasts, no trolls or mounted gobs.. :(

Question is, if there's an evil swamp on the east side of the map and goblins live in the west, will they use Beak Dogs?

Also, can you eat them once you kill the raiders?

I have shadow steeds for goblins to mount and after each siege my dwarves gnaw on fine minced shadow steed roasts.

@ the miasma conversation: zombies already generate miasma in indoor areas, although I'm pretty sure that's hardcoded, like everything else about zombies.  It would be a cool creature tag though.

"creature bow-type attack"? I take it that's meant to represent a creature spitting or something?
There are other options.  Isn't it tarantulas that can flick their irritating hairs in self defense?  And I seem to recall porcupines having a similar ability to flick quills.  Although it's almost 4 in the morning and I'm dead tired, so I might be wrong about both.  But either way, there could be spitting attacks, or attacks where creatures fling "bones" (or whatever).  You could have unicorns with auto-repeating foreheads.

Of course, the new polymorphism thing will allow Trolls to operate in the same civ as gobbos as a sub-species. So they should theoretically be a lot more common.

I believe tarantulas don't, but the hairs irritate the skin of anything that touches them.
And your right on the porcupines, they can shoot their tail quills a good distance.

Urist McDungeonMaster:  "Say hello to my little friend" *steps to the side, revealing a unicorn*
Bax McGobbo:  "Holy crap!" *attempts to flee*
Urist McDungeonMaster:  "FIRE!"
Unicorn:  "Neighh" *fires barrage of horns at Bax*
Bax McGobbo:  "AH-" *falls down dead*

I second this >:D

Wrong on both counts. Tarantulas do flick hairs at big creatures with their back legs, they aim for eyes and nostrils to get the most out of the irritation it causes.

Porcupines 'firing' quills is a myth, they do nothing of the sort. They will turn around and raise their quills when threatened, which might have inspired that myth to some extent.

Hmm.
I must be out of touch, time for me to head back up north then.
Still hurts like hell to take out the quills anyway.

I love how this thread has so terribly derailed.
