Fools like me that got it in the humble bundle back in the day won't get the updated version, huh?

Well if i were you i'd just download a crack... unless the humble bundle was some sort of unathorised copyright scam you have all the (moral at least) rights to the newest version of the game you bought.

At this point I'm hoping mod creators might be willing to start making mods that are balanced against the vanilla factions, if only price wise.

Well "AirSupport" and "Unitec" are somewhat balanced.

Unitec Walker Units are strong and somewhat cheap but also suprisingly easy to destroy or render nearly uncontrollable for a time with the right weapon (hint: Rockets/big guns).
Same thing with Bunkers. One well placed dummy grenade and it's gone.
And their Troops/Weapons are all Vanilla balanced and come with their own quirks (like going boom upon death or being able to work without a head).

Air support while strong is also hard countered by itself... and it has a ton of good stationary AA units to take down those pesky UAVs.
And the Gunship weapons aren't too hot themselves and require some constant fire to killl a lowly light trooper or dummy.

No, we just have to wait for them to get their stuff updated.

I wish there was a way to go into your base and clean up all the crap people leave behind when they die. Like order a cheap robot, pick up all the guns, then send him back to 'sell' all the guns.
You can do that.
Just pick the robot up with a dropship and fly it off the top of the map, you get cash based on the value of all the crap you send back.

Yes but you have to do that during a combat as far as I can tell, which isn't ideal.

Oooh.. I get you, you'd like a "Sell crap" option during metagame? That'd be neat.

Or even the option to enter your base and move around/perform the cleanup yourself.

After a battle on your territory, a little inventory sheet could pop up, where you can equip your surviving bodies from the dropped gear and pawn off any loot/bodies you don't want any more.

That would be neat. I'd still like to be able to do stuff around your base while not in combat. Like build up a wall with a concrete sprayer, dig tunnels, etc. Maybe they could disable gold mining during non-combat intervals so you couldn't exploit it.

Unitec
http://forums.datarealms.com/viewtopic.php?f=61&t=11062

Air Support
http://forums.datarealms.com/viewtopic.php?f=61&t=20903

Both have turrets but Air Support is based more around Ainti Aircraft rather than surface targets (but will still shoot at things that are not dropships)

Unitec has some base defense turrets mountable on the celling or floor (including a Ex-Bawks hueg chaingun) that can only be placed during setup phase.
There are also "SAM" sites that will probably fire at ground targets most of the time and Bunkers that can be dropped via dropships.
Oh and base templates weapon/medkit/grenade dispensers... generally the mod has everything a defense freak might need.
