There aren't really all that many mods for this game that don't consist of vastly OP weapons and troopers.

I recall one I had that gave you the Coalition Colossus.
Basically a giant soldier with 10000 HP.
It could survive about 30 seconds with no head.

Shook's Hueg Pack 'o mods For the times when you just need to delete the entire map. (tons of stuff, as the name implies)
He has a large pile of stuff too! :O Because there just wasn't enough destruction in your game.
Ohai there telekenesis! Lots of e's in that one... What are you still reading for? It has a motherfrigging force choke!

Oh hey, some mods do more than just blow shit up! :D
Dark Storm Technologies As reccomended by Akura, It has electrowristknifewieldingpowersuits, what more could one want?

Yeah, I forgot the name of it but there was another one that was basically gundams. They also had shields that could take errant dropships to the face and guns that would tear though Jesus.

Dark Storm is pretty cool. Nothing (too) overpowered there. Personally, I think the Oni-Bushi jumps too damn high, though. Then again, it's pretty fun to jump over a dropship, and slam down on top of it with a melee attack.

Seconded. Dark Storm is my favorite mod pack, along with a Space Marine mod that uses sounds and weapons from Dawn of War.

I just brought Cortex Command, and began downloading the latest build. However, it seems I need to find a program to "Open" it.

Which should I use?

It's an executable installer.
You shouldn't need anything special to open it once it's downloaded.
