Patch submission procedures
« on: December 14, 2008, 10:56:41 pm »

Is there any official patch submission procedure for doing development on LCS?

Spacifically I want to go ahead on and add real genders, sexual preferences and sodomy laws that the game hints at, but doesn't actually model.  The pickup lines would make more since and conservatives would almost never go for a same sex hookup if other conservatives are around.

I also think adding race could add some interesting game play in a C+ situation.  Segregation laws (you get raided for having mixed racial safe houses) or just bigot cops when they aren't well regulated.

Well, I don't think there is an offical procedure. Just make the patch and send it over to Johnatan S. Fox, see if he accepts it. The person who made a patch on firemen actually compiled the full game with his patch, and Fox liked it so much he folded that patch into the game.

As for me though, I'm unsure if the patch would somehow lose some of the humor inherent in LCS. There was a debate a while back about adding in gender, and people got upset on that, thinking that having no gender makes the game more humorous. And I found it quite funny to see lots of conservatives, who nominally hates gay relationships, accept "same-sex" dates with my founder and willingly walk into my kidnapping trap. I guess I should let others speak though, viewpoints change.

I do like the idea of segeration laws, but having mixed races and bigot cops seem to...um...I don't know...not very good. Again, just wait for others to reply, not just me.

One thing though, do you need some sort of way to indicate the gender of each individual person on the map when you are going on actions (so as to ensure that you are targeting the 'right' people in an Arch-Conservative society)? That way, I don't walk in with my Male Founder and accidently talk to a Conservative Male Prositute.

I'm with Servant Corps on the race one. I think that we've had such a long amount of time feeling as a culture that segregation is wrong that it's no longer much of a conservative vs liberal idea so much as a crazy (expletive) vs even remotely sane idea. It's just a bit too unsettling while torturing priests because of the state of pollution laws is just within the realm of unsavory to be funny.
Other than that, I kinda liked the gender idea. However, it's the persuasion recruiting that I think needs to be nerfed a touch. But seduction is my primary sleeper acquisition method so it could certainly add some kind of challenge.

No gender is a design choice that Toady and Fox both like.  If you wanted to change that, it would probably have to be as an optional feature because Fox likes the main build as is.

Fox likes a man built as is.

This is how I read that.

I thought the consensus was that real genders were okay, but only if it was a hidden variable that you the player cannot see under any circumstances.  It would influence conservative behavior though.

So, basically no effect other then a %50 chance of seduction attempts failing?

Also effects conservative reaction depending on what you are wearing.  Would effect access to the gentleman's club.  Would effect reaction to certain issues (a GUY going on about abortion?).

If all it took was putting on a dress to reveal gender, it wouldn't be very hidden.

Maybe I'm just being anal but It strikes me more as a bug than funny when i see a charicter that I know is female using a masculine pickup line.  I think keeping gender hidden outside of C+ sodomy laws would be ok.  But i think the charicters should acknoledge eachother's gender when attempting to do a pickup and pick an appropiate guyongirl girlonguy guyonguy or girlongirl.  Some of what there is now is fairly unisex.  I'm shure we could come up with some pretty amusing gay pickup lines.

Also LCS members that really suck at preforming hookups should have some madlibs style sayings (like the normal pickup lines, but with words wrong).

This idea would be perfect if a Conservative Crime Squad version of the game was made.

It'd satire the whole idea that liberals are "colorblind and tolerant, ect".

Untill then, I like the way it is now.

Which it should be made. As soon as possible. Srsly. XD

If I'm not struggling with Dwarves that insist on dying, I want to be fighting Liberal terrorism under the banner of "Nuke the planet, kill the gays, mass executions, step on baby rabbits, get pickup truck, profit."

A Conservative Crime Squad game would be pretty awesome.

I'm thinking of what the CCS's recruitment lines would be like in an Arch-con society.
"Want to know something disturbing?..."

"There might still be gay people out there."
"Some people let the American flag touch the ground."
"The government won't you buy landmines to defend your home."
"They haven't burned all the books yet."

This is kinda off topic, but I was thinking of how the CCS might perceive the world.

Instead of the Rube, Yokel, Red-neck, Country Boy, Hick, ect they would all be condensed into "Citizen" or something.

Instead of Hippie it would be Traitor, Beatnik, Long-Hair, Socialist and Yuppie.

Something to that effect. I can see a Blue 1969 Bug filled with these LCS guys chasing after your squad after a successful raid on the Welfare Office.
