I'll have the Modbase for that. Not everyone needs a massive swiss army program launched every time, and this one just tweaks init.

Those who have been watching my posts will notice that I've been practicing my necromancy; and I apologize. However, In this case I think that I am justified in asking:

How's the progress on this thing, Mr. Mirrsen?

Slow. The project has been expanded to include Modbase functionality, and I still have rather small amounts of free time. I'll do the launcher part first, since it's the easiest, but I still don't know when I'll be able to get on it full-time.

I would like to see an option to turn it on and off, some people can get irritated for the most petty of reasons...

That would be a long-term thing though, I assume that this would be a separate executable...

I probably will start using this, and so should others. It would make .ini configuration so much easier and faster.

This is the kind of stuff that actually helps Toady make this game better, without interfereing with his schedule ^^

I like the idea, Sean.

I'd keep it simple, though, only the init settings..

I think the clarity and simplicity of the interface is what makes it attractive.
Too many options, links to modbase etc. would not add much value for me.

Of course, which is why the most basic interface would not be much different from the built-in mode select dialog at all. You'd have buttons to expand into other windows (there are four - the Mason that forms raw structure rules, the Architect that constructs new raws with mods, the Engraver that changes the looks of the game with tilesets and graphics, and the Noble that works with the game's music), and the initial window would likely just have (in addition to "start windowed" and "start fullscreen", only a drop-down and a pair of buttons to select a pre-made collection of settings.

Straight C#? Because if it worked under Mono, that would be rad.

I don't know the specifics of C# well enough to say how it'll work on Mono (that's Linux... right?), I'm just using VS.NET2k8 and its C#. It'll likely require the .NET framework, so I doubt it'll work on anything but Windows.

Mono is an implementation of the .NET framework.

Where you run into trouble is if you use features from later than .NET 2.0 [just set the framework version in compile options] or if you use P/Invoke [i.e. anything with "DllImport"]

I'm aiming for 2.0 anyway (had enough trouble installing 3.5 myself), and I don't plan to import Dll's unless I go nuts and include Companion functionality, so there should be no problems in that regard.

You do know that VS2k8 targets 3.5 by default, right?

Yes, I know, I noticed the target platform dropdown and set it to 2.0 from the get-go. Btw, that line was mine, I said it in a different thread. ;)
