Would you use something like this? And how often?

No. Nevar. I set things up manually.

From time to time, mainly from version to version.
- 38 (34.2%)
Yes, every time I need to start DF.

DF Frontend?
« on: December 14, 2008, 03:24:12 pm »

No it's not related to modding.

So, basically, the question is - providing it could take on the entirety of normal Init setup, would anyone like to use a program like this and how often?

I figured, since DF already has a little popup window asking whether to run it fullscreen or windowed, maybe it could include setup variables as well? After experimenting with Modbase, I think this is actually the right way to go. The program would instantly substitute the values in the init file (preserving the comments, for those interested) before running DF, and would generally allow more common users that don't like searching for the game's options to quickly configure their game.

The screenshot is just a possible interface, the program's not started on yet.

I would love this, it would make things easier.

Some more options as well would be great.

Like I said, I just threw some elements together to make a shot. It should include all options from the init, though probably not crammed into this small of an area.

This would be incredibly convenient, whether as a startup frontend or a small "config" program to set init more easily.

Probably good to have an "advanced options" for the less-used, obscure, or bug-inviting options.

A brilliant idea! I'm surprised no one has made one yet!

I declare this nifty, but it'd have to be updated with regularity to be really useful.

I bet Toady probably would have gotten around to something similar in the long run but its good to see something that can help him out and may be implemented in future versions.

CeeSharp. I'm also overhauling the Modbase using it.

Incidentally, this project was born in joy of celebration over finally installing Visual Studio 2008. I couldn't get Framework 3.5 to install for quite a long time... and it turned out all I had to do was enable Windows Update... it didn't even download anything... hrm.

I think this would help make the game more intuitive to newcomers and easier to setup for everyone.

I'd use that if it could save and load tilesets and settings. When I'm at home I'd like to use my 16x16 font, but It only fills the top half of the screen, so it's best as a windowed mode. But I also like to use the standard windowed font because it's smaller. A way to quickly switch would be great.

Alright, so then this will be the final design of the main window (I might do skins... or not) if this program will indeed ever come to be.

I should note that the Modbase was made in Visual Basic, not C#, so I might have some problems with the language. As of right now, the only features that do work are the links at the bottom. :P

Sounds great. I'd use it every day.
But... you know, wouldn't it be great if it could swap out raws too?
