Repairing Clothing
« on: December 14, 2008, 06:12:34 am »

could there perhaps be a job order which consists of taking xrope reed tunicx and turning it into rope reed tunic? or XPig tail tunicX to xPig tail tunicx?

it could be like 1 pig tail for 3 items darned.

just a simple bloat that would make life so much easier for a long term fortress.

Yeah, he's a banned spammer. Normally we'd delete this thread too, but people were having too much fun with it by the time we got here.

I would actually prefer a way to be able to get rid of the damn clothes in order to make new ones. It'd give tailors something to do besides sitting on their asses in a stockpile of woven, dyed cloth making a rope or bag once a year.

Some sort of "repair kit" item would be good. 1 clothing item/cloth piece for one kit, and kits have 2 uses. I suppose the kits would be made at the clothier's.

I'd like to be able to take apart old, damaged clothes, and reuse at least some of the cloth.

I wouldn't think this'd be too hard, there's already a simmilar system for melting metal objects.

At least for now the dwarves don't mind wearing threadbare clothes.

A kit is overcomplicated.  All you need is some thread.

screw the kits... just allow for darning
saves you getting unhappy thoughts from dwarves having crap cloting, and you can just order "darn clothing" (R)

Then Urist mcweaver has something to do, and UristMcNoble doesn't throw a tantrum.

also allows for resale value.

What about... Removing all clothes? Is there a quick fashion? Or once it is owned it is doomed to stay in fortress forever?

What is capacity of cabinet and chest?

I don't think you can even unnassign a persons clothing.. at all...
which is why my barracks is such an untidy fortress.

You should at least be able to tear apart the goblin clothes that they leave behind.

Rather than having them directly force you to mine adamantine, I would suggest that they give you strange moods that require adamantine. "Dig out the adamantine or Urist here goes insane and dies" is suitably vicious.

(It occurs to me that you can probably get "Lovecraft" as the random name of your fortress. That's when you know you're screwed.)

Magma.. All my dwarves need to keep them warm...
I have never had a single negative thought about clothes being worn out.... Maybe because I have never made a single shirt in any of my workshops ever...

Not that I dont have shirts..... I should post the picture of my store room.

*edit* Yeah Here it is =p

Maybe when DF gets lighting we can use old clothes soaked in some kind of fuel for torches.
