I too can't wait to see how this develops.

My turn done.

You still sitting it out or what?

Quietly waiting, not drawing anyone's ire, might be the best tactic. For when the three major superpowers burn themselves out fighting eachother, HE will be the strongest one, and the galaxy will be his!

Just noticed this:
For when the three major superpowers burn themselves out fighting eachother(...)
You're calling me a major superpower? Dude, I've got like, one and a half planet under my control. But thanks for the compliment.

He may have been talking about M, though he doesn't make as much noise.

It should be noted, that I have no actual information on how everyone is game-wise. I don't even look at the saves. I just saw that you're very vocal, and you fight with Mainiac alot, so I thought you were a superpower.

He's really, totally not.  Palazzo managed some early scraps on some border worlds, but Mainiac was fighting a war on Ishtakhar for a while before he buggered off to conquer the other half of the galaxy.

Mainiac, the entire course of my punitive effort consisted of blowing up a couple transports, an empty carrier, and a couple useless ground units.  For that, you obliterate a third of the Imperial Fleet, which aren't really mine anyway.  Why?

How'd Mainiac do so much better than everyone else?

That's what I'm trying to figure out.  Part of it is that he had a lot of unclaimed territory to spread into over the back-side of the galaxy.  Kish is right near the center, he has the fool AI on one side, the Decados on the other, and nothing to his south-east.  I have a crescent that's nearly as big, but still bracketed in by the Church and Palazzo.  Palazzo and the Decados never had anywhere to go but that little cluster on the western side.

Build engineers early, often and always.  The payoff is huge.

It also helps to run a shoe string operation at all times.  For the first 50 turns of the game, if I had two shoelaces, I would sell one to start paying for another engineer.

It also really helped that I committed almost none of my resources to fighting Il Palazzo and even fewer to fighting Decados for the first twenty turns or so.  For Decados, this conflict was a wasted effort and for Il Palazzo, it was a giant waste, which held both of them back.  I only started gearing up for war when I had power armor, by which point it was a drop in the bucket.  While Il Palazzo was sending tanks to Kish, I was selling fixed guns on Kish to pay for engineers to send to Criticorum.

In short, if I had a coat of arm, it would be a shoestring.

What do you mean a "shoe string operation"?

Every turn I would set out to accomplish as much as possible and exploit as many resources as possible.  I would plan for the future, but generally put a greater priority on the present.  This meant aggressively landing transports outside of cities even if it left them vulnerable to attack, continuing to focus on off world colonization even as Kish was under attack, launching attacks without marshaling my full strength and engaging in far flung endeavors on the off chance that they might be useful at some point later and of course always building as many engineers as I could possibly afford.

He leaves out the part about Kish being right next door to Leagueheim.  All that talk about "buying" metal confused me for a moment.  This is because, through the entire course of the game, the League has refilled my Agora twice.  That's 400 metal.  Mainiac has had access to easily buyable metal with regular frequency the whole time.

Cheater!

Yeah, not really.  But I still consider it unfair.
