Delayed, just sent.

I was reading a FAQ about the game, and it mentioned that the church will never actually get mad at you, except for declaring war over proscribed techs.  Does anything actually happen if you change denomination or steal tithes?

Don't ever change sects of the church.  The system is seriously bugged.

Speaking of bugged, I'm having a massive problem with the resource system.  If I have resources on any world, I'm capable of building units on Kish.  But, resources are only deducted if they're on Kish.  This is... slightly unbalanced to say the least.

Whoa, are you serious? Is this how the bug you've mentioned earlier worked?(you would have gotten the food for your engineers from byzantium for free, in the example you've given)
Anyway, has it been like this since the begining? If yes, I could run your first save on my computer and check if all is fine. Just let you know, there's nothing wrong with my game's resource management. Perhaps you've forgotten to run a patch or something?
Try reinstalling the whole stuff and see if it's still bugged(though you've probably done it already).
Still, if it can't be fixed, and you know about this bug, it can be avoided - just don't build stuff when you ain't got enough resources on a planet.
And be sure to tell us if you've exploited this to your advantage during our game.

The symptoms are as I told you, but I don't know the route of the problem.  I'm going to try to look into that tonight.  I'm not yet sure how long this is going on and if it's the problem I noticed before.
Edit:
Sorry for the delay guys, I was off my medication yesterday, which leaves me incapable of keeping a schedule for ANYTHING be it crucial school work or video games and makes it hard for me to set priorities (i.e. finish turn first, solve bugs second.)  Ironically though, it's hard to notice this effect when I'm experiencing it, as I'm much less focused, which lead me to think "meh, I can go a day without" and I only realized after many hours how I couldn't accomplish anything.  Anywho, I've got some stuff on my plate that is sadly more important the EFS, but should be able to get to this later today or tomorrow.

A very boring turn. Which is good, because it's quick to do.

Done quick, since for some godawful reason I'm still awake.

Question: What happens when a planet runs out of food?  Does it just raise the possibility of plague infection, or would I start losing units?

Not that I'm asking for any particular reason mind you.  Oh no, not at all.

Quote from: nova web page
Starvation. All cities and most (but not all) units require food. If you have insufficient food available, those units and cities which don't receive food will begin to starve. Starving units and cities are marked with an exclamation mark (!), and lose health each turn. A starving unit loses 20 health per turn (but regains 12 or 2 depending on whether it's in a city or not). A starving city loses about half its health each turn (but regains 8 ), and will stabilise at about 10-15% health (if the Plague is switched off). With the Plague option switched on, a starving unit or city with health below 25% must make a plague check - it will probably catch the plague and die very quickly.

I was wondering, did you leave plague on when setting up the game, mainiac?

I'm fairly certain I didn't.  It was a while ago however.

How's your bug doing, mainiac?

I think the bug might be related to the fact that I had depleted the agora's supply of metal and the guild never replenished it.

regarding agora: perhaps the guild has other stuff to bring instead? if you're buying or selling a lot of high level stuff.
To quote nova website:
Quote
An agora is replenished whenever a League bulk hauler visits the planet. (Actually, it's replenished on the turn after the bulk hauler arrives at the planet.) When an agora is replenished, 4 types of resource revert to their original quantities (thus they may be increased or decreased). The 4 types will be one of the following groups:
1. Food - Energy - Metal - Trace
2. Trace - Exotica - Chemicals - Biochems
3. Biochems - Electronics - Ceramsteel - Wetware
4. Wetware - Monopols - Gems - Singularities

What I'd like to know, is if your insane city count relates to the bug.

I don't think my insane city relates to this bug.  Throughout the game, metal production has been my inhibiting factor in building engineers.  My metal production off of Kish has also been very low and I used that metal very quickly.  When I finally got a decent metal stockpile on Criticorum, I immediately noticed the bug because I had been paying pretty close attention to my metal supply.  So if I got any free metal, it was a slow trickle for a pretty short period of time.  A bigger trickle was food, which I think might have been a factor.  So I disbanded 200 food to compensate.  But I've had plentify supplies of food throughout the game.
