Aren't traits seriously broken?  I can take enemy in the Church, enemy in the League and Inbreeding, none of which have much effect, and get warrior ethic, rule of law and mercantile savy, all of which help enormously.

I like the house rules proposed by the site you linked too.  Shall we play by them?

http://website.lineone.net/~rwein/nova/houserules.htm

Edit: eh, I didn't get an e-mail or nuthin' from you.
Seems like a good idea. If everybody agrees, that is. There's quite a few points to keep in mind while playing, according to that link, but it boils down to play fair and avoid using exploits.
Also, let's use This for choosing traits. Read that page, then run a singleplayer game setting the difficulty to easy, and choose your traits accordingly. Alternatively, to simplify things, we can make do without traits at all. Give me your thoughts.

About the mail: Apparently, your account(gmail) does not accept .exe files, and the archive was self-extracting. I'll try to change it to .rar archive and send it again promptly.

I shall henceforth remain neutral on the issue of traits.

Also, when I say I'm not very good at this game, I mean it.

Anyone got any tips on making money?

Anyone got any tips on making money?
selling stuff at the agora?
bulding cities to get more taxes?
disbanding unneeded units to lower expenses?

About traits, if you're not against them, then choose yours, according to the rules in earlier mentioned link, of course(none is also a valid choice).

I can upload the save, but the game upload is hanging for some reason.  So, here's the save, someone try it out to see if it works.

Works fine.

Since it's unlikely that we'll get somebody else to join our silly enterprise, I propose setting the House Hazat to be computer controlled. I'll take al-Malik and we can start playing. Should I be wrong, and there will be some EFS fans wanting to join before we finish first two, maybe three turns, we'll consider restarting the game.

So, kids, be mindful of the rules(link in the first post) and don't go out of your way to exploit the stupid machine's limitations. Also, again, make sure you've got the right patch and mod.

mainiac, start the game(warehouse on!)edit:damnit, I mean OFF.. And let us all know what traits have you chosen - let's say there'll be 0 starting points to spend.(if nothing else, it'll help us decide if we should call you a goody-goody or despotic bastard in diplomatic correspondence) Same with everybody.

Hey, if we're using the Nova house-rules on leadership traits, what point total are we shooting for?  0?

Also, it's Aqizzar.  No U.

Yeah, 0 is fine by me. I've modified the first post accordingly.

Jeez, and here I was wondering what did you mean by no 'U'. Gimme a sec and I'll fix it.
edit: hereby I give permission to call me Il Pualazzo in your next post.
(warehouse on!)
No, god damnit, I mean OFF. Freakin' stupid me.

Alright Il Pualazzo, riddle me, why Universal Warehouse off?  It's just additional tedious and crippling micromanagement that I certainly don't like to deal with.  Partly because I've played with it so little that I'm not quite sure how it works.  Resources just have to be on the same planet right?

IWM: too bad.

Aqizzar: it's really simple - each planet has it's own resource pool, so anything needed on another planet needs to be transported by spaceships.

  • You need to provide food for invasion forces or quickly conquer a farm
  • You either transport input resources to your idustrial planets or buid a separate industry network on each one

not that much more micromanaging, and it allows you to:
  • raid resource convoys/forces players to use escorts
  • blockade planets to starve them or cripple your enemy's economy on some remote and well defended planet without the need of mounting invasion
  • makes freighters more useful(as in: there is some reason to build them at all)
  • prevents exploits like landing an undercover engineer and building a city on some remote island of enemy's planet only to happily churn out mastiff tanks and whatnot thanks to the magically teleporting resources. You can still do this, but the hightened space traffic over said planet will at least raise some suspicions.
  • same with hiding stacks of units on enemy planets/byzantium

The new turn 1 is up:

http://theamazingjex.googlepages.com/PBEM1AI.sav

Traits:
It is said about Li Halan that they are heartless rulers of renown tyranny.  This is naught but lies.  The Li Halan come from a harsh world and did what they had to for peace and prosperity to return to their land.  However, they acquired a powerful enemy in the church along the way.  His lies, coupled with their harsh rules, make it difficult to maintain the morale of their troops.  However, the Warrior Ethic the Li Halan are instilling in their legions is allowing a strong new cadre to emerge, this coupled with the leadership of their nobles, widely regarded as Battlemasters makes the Li Halan a force to be reckoned with.

Brought before the Imperial Senate:
Let it be known that the worlds of Criticorum, Rampart and Icon ((galactic north, east and south of the Li Halan homeworld of Kish)), are considered worlds of extreme interest to the August and Noble Li Halan.  Hostile actions upon these worlds or in their surrounding space may be taken as hostile actions against the fearsome might of Li Halan.  Furthermore, the worlds of Midian, Grail and Manitou are declared to be of interest to Li Halan.  Let it be known that we wish no hostile action to be taken on or above these worlds without one years notice (1 turn) to the Li Halan.
The world of Malignatus is viewed by Li Halan as being of extreme interest to both the August and Noble line of Li Halan and the renown family of Al-Malik.  Any hostile action upon or above these worlds may be by Li-Halan as hostile action against these noble families.

The Decados are, well, decadent. And probably batshit insane, too.

Mind you, they're still fierce negotiators and quite competent(perhaps even obsessive) administrators.

Yeah, I chose decadence and administration, even though it all evens out. It's for roleplaying.
