In which I make signatures...
« on: December 13, 2008, 09:38:09 pm »

Basically a thread where I make DF based ASCII forum signatures using the program DF paint to spell out the person's name (like mine).
At the moment I will only do one for the first 3 people who ask. If I finish those I may make more depending on how I feel and how much time I have.
My signature for those of you with the sig function turned off:

When I draw your sig tell me:
What sort of themed fortress you want (desert, glacier, glass, magma, etc),
What name you want to use (if different from your username)
What color you want it in (only DF colors).

Duke, because the 2.0 is just for show.

Green, because I seem to always have that theme.

Cave river fortress? I want one letter to be made in bloodstains and corpses, so I suppose a failed siege at the entrance would do.

Dang it!  Well, if you feel like doing others later, I'm asking ahead of time for my name, LegoLord, done in a magma and fire theme, and magma and fire colors.  Preferably with mechanisms involved in some way, but those should be blue.

Hawkfrost's is done, but for some reason when I scaled it down from 83 pixels to 80 pixels it did a lot more damage to it then it did when I scaled down my sig. Maybe i changed some of the settings by accident. Also blue is a bit harder to distinguish than purple. I may end up doing yours again as I don't really like how it turned out.

Here it is:

What exactly is the point of scaling it down by 3 pixels, anyway? You're just going to get scaling/interpolation effects for a three pixel difference.

Because the maximum height a signature is aloud to be is 80 pixels.

I have found through trial and error that colours like green, yellow, gray and brown won't stand out enough to actually read the text.

Here is Duke's as an example. The green words are only noticeable if you look really hard:

First scaled:

Second cropped:

I think I will skip IWM as his name is much to big. Will do one for legolord instead. I might also try to use a different tile set that has squares 10 (or 8 ) pixels high but is still basic ascii. If anyone can find one for me I will do a signature for that person as well.

aww, now I regret voting for text-only signatures back then

anyway, I shall take one

if possible, make it tell a story of a noble pulling a lever and then being magmafyied
