Creature : Bee?
« on: December 27, 2007, 01:08:00 pm »

Not sure if theres any plan for this, but I'll tell you where I'm coming from with this.  Often as a [Dwf Fort] nut I play around with custom stuff, like playing humans or skeletons or whatever and today I wanted to play a Beehive fort, went looking for "BEES" to alter into "HUMANGOUS BEES"(Miss-spelled on perpose) but couldn't find bees.  Turned to myself and said "Even though bees are becoming rare now-a-days they should be in DWARF FORTRESS...

[CREATURE:BEE]
   [NAME:bee:bees:bee]
   [TILE:249][COLOR:6:7:1]
   [VERMIN_MICRO][FREQUENCY:100][VERMIN_HATEABLE]
   [FLIER][VERMIN_NOTRAP]
   [SMALL_REMAINS][NATURAL][NOBONES]
   [SPEED:600]
   [PENETRATEPOWER:2]
   [VERMIN_SOIL_COLONY]
   [VERMIN_GROUNDER]
   [BLOODTYPE:W]
   [NOT_BUTCHERABLE]
   [PREFSTRING:sting]
   [DIURNAL]
   [GNAWER:stung]
   [NO_SLEEP]
   [BIOME_NOT_FREEZING]
   [STANDARD_FLESH]
   [BODY:BEE]
   [POPULATION_NUMBER:250:500]
   [CLUSTER_NUMBER:100:200]
   [HOMEOTHERM:10067]

So I went about making some...not as good as I would have liked and didnt function as "real bees" so I'm asking (The Game's Engineers) if they woulda-coulda include bees and maybe a bee/insect "Pollinate" behavior...

Nice, now to mod it to be the same type as a purring maggot, and then "milk" it for honey.

Yeah... thats disturbing.

well thats disturbing....anyway I'm doing a follow-up in [body_default] it looks promiseing since i'm compressing it to a copy and paste form and in [creature files] all you'd need do is put in [BODY:BEE] and a accurate bee is born

Somebody said that you can't give body tokens to vermin. I dunno if that's the way it is or not.

That is simply UNSTATED and would be like saying you must remove body parts just because it has [VERMIN] tag on it

Until its STATED in either the files or site(by someone such as Toady)it is unfounded information.  Thank you for your imput nontheless.

Besides [GIANT BEE] or anyother such would require it.

If that thing were bigger, it would be even harder to kill than a giant cave spider...

Add [HOMEOTHERM:10067] (or really anything between 10,000 and 10100)

First off, a giant bee would be harder to kill than a Giant Spider.  A Giant Spider's legs operate off of pneumatics, where a spider's heart forces blood into a leg in order to extend it.  Such a system would break and a leg would be useless once you introduce any sort of break in the system.  You would have to do it for each leg, but you get the idea.  A bee and most insects actually use muscles which are more resistant to damage, if a little weaker.

Second off, where are the killer bees that inject a poison strong enough to paralyze an adult dwarf?

Add this should work, in that case.
code:

   [EXTRACT_PARALYZE]
   [EXTRACT:giant bee poison:7:0:0]
   [EXTRACT_ANTIDOTE:giant bee poison antivenom:7:0:0:100]

Someone over in the modding forum mentioned that they made normal bees into a plant as beehives, which I thought was brilliant. The plant was beehive (or dwarven beehive for the subterranean version), the 'seed' was a queen bee, the harvest was honey/dwarven honey, and the harvest could be brewed into mead/dwarven mead.
