Dropping in to express my massive thanks to captain duck :).  Even with the new version, these videos helped me to get a clue of this game. Without it, I would have been so lost :p

I just discovered this video set as well.. it is fantastic! Thanks a lot!

I actually just made a DVD out of all 43 videos if anyone is interested in a copy. Quality is really good :)

Just send me a message if interested, I want to create a torrent of the ISO. It's nice to be able to sit and watch it on the tv while eating.

Heh did you make it a normal DVD for use in a DVD player with menu's and stuff, or did you just download em and threw em on a DVD? If its the first id like a copy hah.

I spent a few hours at work (gotta love IT jobs) creating an actual simple DVD that you can pop in any dvd player. Has a basic menu listing off each chapter with a terse description (I mostly stole the description you gave at the beginning of each video). I normalized the audio too, so the loud videos wont give you a heart attack when they play :)
I've got to go through the entire thing this weekend to make sure it is fully functional then I'm going to make a torrent, most likely. I made it a dual layer DVD ISO to preserve the video quality (looks great!) and I also put the original .avis in a folder on it, so its right at 8GB.

Thanks again for the videos :) They have really helped me get the hang of the game.

Hey people, can i ask for a favor?

Can someone make me a prepacked tilesetted version that has a normal tileset that keeps the normal size for the side bar menu. All i've found so far are tilesets that give the triple size ratio, just like mike maydays does.

This is fine for normal play, but i need the text to be readable for new recordings, and scale down well. So can someone fix me a version that's like the dystopian rhetoric tileset that i used in my first DFvidtuts?. If you could pregen a large world in that to that would be super.

Id do this all myself again but its a lot of testing and trying around which will keep me busy for longer then i want to. And the more time i waste on this, the less time i have for DFvidtuts.

Just wanted to chime in with the rest to say that your videos were crazy helpful in getting me to understand and love this great game, and a new series detailing the changes of the new version would be great.  I'm actually a little intimidated to start playing the new version, and I haven't played DF at all in about a year or so which doesn't help.

I'd help with the tilesets, but...  Well, I know little about all that.  I prefer the ASCII, I set mine to a ratio that makes the tiles roughly square and has a large viewing area (since I'm running 1680x1050) in Windowed and then I'm good.

Looking forward to it, though!

Hey also want to say a big thank you for your videos,... they are awesome and your voice just fits to do the job. Finally Im able to play the worlds most excellent game without turning it off after 4 minutes filled with confusion :D.

I've been toying around with tilesets and i got DF to run in the resolution i used for my youtube recordings with the gold plated pack Allthough the font is horrible in that so i replaced the tileset with the mayday tileset. That will probably be used for the next set of vids.

Anyway getting closer to making new recordings. I think im gonna make a couple of vids showing whats new in DF2010 including:

embarking
preparing
farming
military
hospitals

Also i've been dicking around a bit with the object testing arena and adventure mode, i might do some vids on those to. But don't hold me on that.

So people, anyone have any other ideas of stuff that should be handled in the new vids?

How about giving some tips about cavern breaching and exploration in the early fortress game?

Somehow I don't think that people should be cavern breaching in the 'Early' game. Doesn't sound like too good an idea, maybe cover it later in the series but not earlier.

nice first video. It would be interesting if after you have made all of the planned videos, to make a gimmick video of trying to enter the demon fortress.
