I can't wait for the... HFS... episode, if you get that far.

I enjoyed the U-tube episode, and I laughed a bit because it was on You-tube.

You must have had a temporary youtube error or something, it works fine now. Also if it doesnt work again, i do have backups at the internetarchive thats up to date most of the time.

hmm, i still get the same error, maybe it's a local phenomenon with the german youtube mirrors or something. anyway i'll download from the archives, thanks =)

btw, about the last one and enemies going through fortifications : i think the enemies rather spawn behind the fortifications. Afaik enemies can spawn anywhere "near" a magmapipe,underground-river,etc , even if the is no direct connection to place where they spawn.

also something nice for minimizing losses during woodcutting : it is possible to make channels from below, by creating up-stairs below the tiles you want to channel. enemies can't get down because the corresponding down-stair is missing. This way you can dig a channel around a big wooden area without ever going outside.
You should be save from melee attackers during channeling, but be careful as enemies with ranged weapons might still shoot at your diggers during that.

I'm surprised you didn't do an episode on magma and pumps. That reaction is quite a bit different.

You do know that the series isn't over right?

I have some pumps standing around, would be a waste not to show them on video. I dont know when, magma forges and glass are probably up next. That or an extra video since i have the game saved with 2 full goblin packs about to run into a line of traps.

Extra update today, not much happens, just goblinslaughter.

Part extra 02: In this episode, goblins get slaughtered by standing on traps. This is skippable if you just want to learn about DF.

Also posted the link a bit early, im sleepy and going to bed early, it'll work fine in an hour.

I love your guides a lot.  They are very helpful.  It would be very helpful if you would include an extra video on how to install the tilesets though.  I for one have no idea how to, and there are probably a lot of other people who don't either (especially my fellow noobs).

Just a suggestions though, no obligations attached.

Normal update today

Part 27: In this episode i explain magma forges, and some miscellaneous stuff like roads, sculpture gardens & ponds.

Dwarf Fortress Video Tutorial part 27 - Magma Forging, roads & ponds: Youtube HD

Here finnaly is magma forging, also some other othings. I have the next episode recorded to, its all about glass, that will probably come up tommorow. After that the next one after that should be machinery. Im really getting close to the end here now, i dont have much material left. I have a couple of update ideas: dwarven economy, the king, clothing, creatively taking care of captured enemies :), but thats about all i can think of at the moment. Sure it's not everything, im thinking of leaving out soap for example, but people should have to find out some things by themselves.

Also i have a question for you guys. I have multiple military squads, 2 were wrestling squads, but others were intended to be weapon squads with mixed weapons and a hammer squad. But for some reason, all my dwarves do is wrestle. I got 2 hammerdwarves from a new batch of migrants, stuck those in a squad with some other trainees, all set to hammer. But for some reason all they do is wrestle, and the hammerdwarves eventually become wrestlers, elite wrestlers and then champions. I have 39 champions at the moment, its ridiculous. So is this a bug in 40d9 or have i overlooked something? There are more then enough iron hammers around,  and they were carrying hammers till they became wrestling champs. What is going on?

I believe that your wrestlers are sparring with your weapon equipped soldiers. So that makes them all wrestle..  which then increases their wrestling skill.

They (your weapon soldiers) still fight with their assigned weapons, but because they are labeled by their highest skill, and all they do is wrestle all day, they are simply known as "wrestlers"....err, thats what I have gotten from observing it myself. I'm still learning, so I'm not completely sure.

I may try to make separate barracks in the future. Not sure how to get individual squads to go to a particular barracks however.

ALSO! Thanks so much for all these vids...  I heard of, and started playing DF because of them. They are an excellent addition to the community and I can really appreciate just how much time you have put into them. Thanks!

Have you checked your dwarve's stats? If their weapon stats are rising over time, then they are training with weapons, just not as fast as wrestling.

Consider wrestling a safer way to get your soldiers stronger than weapons, but maybe you don't have enough weapons to train with?

One of your dwarves is named "L-block"? After Tetris brick?

Anyway - awesome work as ever, can not wait for another update.

Yep he's named after that dirty rascal from tetris :)

Also have some update:

Part 28: This episode is all about glass, on low and high quality glass and what you need to do to make high quality glass.

Next episode won't be about machinery, but instead its about a secret.

Awesome tutorials - they're the inspiration behind my "play along" tutorials (see my sig block). I fully intend to send my mediumly-trained recruits over to YouTube to continue their DF training once I'm done with my 10-or-so tutorials!
