And anyone wanna do me a favor? Tell me how in to get a PS3 gamepad working under windows XP 64-bits. I found this: http://netkas.org/?p=75 but can't get it to work.

First of all; I'm on 32bits Vista

I got my Ps3 controller to work with this tool: http://www12.zippyshare.com/v/60844444/file.html

First install libusb-win32-filter-bin-0.1.10.1.exe and then run ps3sixaxis_en.exe and quickly press the PS button when the screen popups.
Then you can check at Start > Configuration > Gamepads (Spelbesturingen) if it worked.
(most of the time I run ps3sixaxis_en.exe 20 times and press the PS button, and then it'll work)

Thanks for the try but this isnt it. I have the ps3 controller working on my xp32 mediapc,  thats no problem. But my main pc is a pretty standard xp64, and i cant even run the ps3_sixaxis program, it gives some error. The libusb test program keeps saying -1,-1,-1,-1 to so i dont think thats working either. I need someone who has actual experience with xp64 and getting this to work.

Also, heres an update:

Part 22: In this episode, im showing off all i made, in 2D, and 3D!. This all because im starting a new fortress (with magma) after this.

3Dwarf is found here: http://www.bay12games.com/forum/index.php?topic=608.0

Dwarf Fortress Video Tutorial part 22 - End of Fort 1 &  3D view: Youtube HD

And that is the end of demonbutter the spear of diamonds. The next fort will be in the latest version of the game, and will have magma.

I was just referencing parts of your earlier videos, where you said doors can only be constructed between two walls, and the old rule that you need support for open spaces. The support thing has been changed, and doors only need one adjacent wall to be built. Just clearing some things up. You go a good job, but some things have minor inaccuracies.

Be sure to do a good job with pressure and such.

How has support been changed?  I leave a few unmined 'pillars' throughout larger rooms.  Is that enough?

Alright, there no concept of weight anymore. You can make rooms as large as you want. No problem. The only thing that will cause collapses in the 3D version is if a tile of wall or floor is not supported from any of the cardinal directions(North, South, East, West, Up, Down) by a (C)onstructions(As in, (b)uild (C)onstructions). Might be a bit difficult to explain.

So no, no need for supports unless it is to support an otherwise unsupported tile of wall or floor.

Update update update:

Part 23: In this episode i start with a new fort, and explain some new terrain features such as the magma pipe and underground river.

Dwarf Fortress Video Tutorial part 23 - Start of fort 2, Magma pipe & Underground river: Youtube HD

I found a great location, and the new fort has started. I forgot to mention in this video, but the name of the fort is "Breakfastgears" and the dwarf group is called "The Guild of Brillance". In the next episode i'll do magma channeling and magma forges.

Without these tutorials I would've been repeatedly lost. I mean, the wiki is nice and stuff, but sometimes it's just required to actually see how things are done. And it's especially ideas like b-shift-b that are almost essential. For my first fort I completely missed the orders screen for example, which made me throw up my arms in frantic movements whenever I saw all my dwarves mindlessly running into an ambush. They still run rather mindlessly but at least not into the ambush. Now I'm picking idiotic maps with aquifers, terrifying/haunted/sinister to keep things interesting, but I'd still be in fluff-land if it wasn't for your video courses of Basic Dwarf Fortress.

So, thanks a lot for the tutorials. I've recommended them to other beginning players and intelligent people I appreciate enough to infect with a Dwarf Fortress addiction. Hopefully they won't end up blaming me for it.

First off, thanks again for the great videos. :)

One question that has constantly entered my mind when watching your videos is: "How do you safely build these water channels without causing your miners to drown?"  And in the magma video, you had started a small forging operation, but how did you crack into the magma pipe without flooding that room with magma?  It's just something that I don't understand.  Do you build some kind of doorway that can block the flow?  And if so, when you crack that final wall open, does the dwarf die?

Thanks! :)

This is going to be in the next video (not today, maybe tommorow). Basicly what i do is first dig out  the path but leave a 1 tile wall between the magma. Then i place fortifications right in front of that wall. If i want to be extra safe, i build floodgates in front of that fortification walls. Then i build some stairs up, go above the tiles that are holding the magmafrom the fortification, and channel those out.

With that, the magma can flow in, but has to go through the fortifications, that filters any nasty enemies out, then has to go through floodgates if i have any, and it goes where i want.

When the magma is in your channels, channel out 1 spaceso the magma forges will work, and your done, you have a working magma forge.

Oh, and do remember to close of the channeled tile that opened the path with a grate/floor. I had a fire imp climb in that way, luckily he didn't do much damage.

Anyway more on that in the next vid, probably tommorow.

EDIT: well things happened and "tommorow" is over, and tommorow is saturday. Next ep will be sunday or monday.

Next one will be about water/magma flow and magma forging. Atleast thats the plan, sheesh. TBH, this needs a LOT of preparation and thats what ive been working on.
