With the new wounds arc coming up and the new description arc; how about this suggestion:

* "Urist Y was most impressed by the large scar across Urist B's face"

Most dwarves would be impressed by scars, because they are hard-core. The dwarves could also have increased friendliness modifiers to battle-scarred dwarves- since they would be honored to associate with such strong protectors. But others would look on scared dwarves with disdain (the dwarves were wimpy enough to be injured - ptah; or they just don't like the aesthetic. So those dwarves would think:

* "Urist Elflover was disgusted by the scar on Urist ColossusKiller's face"

A mechanic that determines how an entity feels about obvious scars on another critter based on a personality stat?  Yeah, that could be cool

I don't really want to put dwarves to death because people find the spider shaped scar on their noggin' unattractive. It might affect personal relations by making friendship forming faster/slower or disable/encourage lower status but no bad thoughts please

Huh?  It has as much potential for positive thoughts as negative ones.  If you shied away from every gameplay element that could potentially cause unhappy thoughts, you wouldn't have a game.  The game isn't even difficult unless you go out of your way to make it so.

It's a good idea, mostly in the context of various entities/civs/people having preferences and dislikes for all kinds of appearance factors (of which there will be a lot more next version).  Whole societies often have preferences for traits as coarse as hair color.  I think I've also read about facial scars from dueling being fashionable in early 20th century Germany, so this kind of thing isn't a reach at all.  As long as appearance elements can readily turned into tokens, it would be pretty easy to give entities generalized opinions about them.

He has implemented scars, and they will be in the next version, but I dont think he has the good/bad thought process accociated with it.

Actually this still happens in modern Germany, although obviously the duels are about sport rather than anything serious.  The scars are considered 'cool.'

I like this idea a lot.  There could be interesting interchange between nobles and workers and soldiers.  Perhaps scarry dwarves turned into guards would give nobles unhappy thoughts, unless the king was a dwarfy dwarf and then they could actually be happier.  Especially if those scarred dwarves were battle veterans.  I know if I were a noble I'd feel much happier being watched over by Urist McTwentyyearveterandwarf than Urist McBoot.

Dwarves could also get happy or unhappy thoughts based on their own scars - or perhaps based on the reactions of other people to those scars.  A dwarf goes out and gets a scar and his spouse doesn't like scars, so when the spouse gets an unhappy thought, so does the scarred dwarf.

Geshud has been ecstatic lately.  He was excited that a wound left a rakish scar recently.  He entered a relationship recently.

Dwarves already get an unhappy thought for interacting with someone who they don't like for unknown reasons (probably incompatible personalities - anyone have data offhand on personalities vs friend/grudge relationships?)

It wouldn't have to be a severe bad thought.

It wouldn't have to be a severe bad thought.

That only happens with Grudges, if I recall, which are known to be caused by personality oppositions; the only one I can think of that is known reliably is modest/immodest people.

But anyway - if you don't like thoughts, turn them off. Does [NOTHOUGHT] have any side effects other than that? Otherwise, [NOEMOTION] will probably disable tantrums.

Awesome idea once magic comes along. A magical artifact battle axe which causes more damage depending on how freakishly scarred its wielder is. It 'respects' the battle-hardened veteran but is as useful as a used tampon for your random recruit.

This is Slaves to Armok, God of Blood chapter II: Dwarf Fortress.   Used tampons are highly dangerous.
